What is clear is the program needs to be better at closing
you know what might help with that? Some actual ****ing investment from the athletic department. Not playing in an arena that is 16 years old and hasn’t been touched since it was opened. Having an actual practice facility, not a 70 year old shared basketball court in the WRC. Things like that.

We lost Avila to Indiana freaking State because he walked in there and saw an arena that just had a $50M renovation and attached $8M practice facility.
Drake started to get good when they opened their practice facility and are now completely re-doing the Knapp Center.
We HAVE to get something done for Jake and it has to be soon. He's not going to leave because he doesn't like it here or wants a new challenge or whatever. He's going to leave because he's sick of bringing a toothpick to a sword fight in recruiting.
Hell, even if we'd spend a little money on lighting and intros in the McLeod Center it might make an impression on kids. Everybody else is putting on light shows and setting off pyro and we've got 3 sad white spot lights.

It’s not our job to figure that out.
David Harris gets paid a quarter million dollars a year to figure that out.
so either the answer is:
UNI is the only university in the MVC/MVFC incapable of finding money to buy OOC games and make upgrades - seriously, BC has posted every upgrade every school has done. It’s nearly a billion dollars between the MVC/VFC and none of it is from UNI
or
David Harris is the only AD incapable of finding and getting funding for major projects without it taking 9 years to get one project maybe funded…when he thinks the time is right to share it, 4 years after announcing he was going to start funding it
which is it?

The enrollment and attendance challenges aren't any different for anybody else and they're getting **** done. Is Indiana State rolling in cash that we don't know about? Does Murray State, sitting in an area the size of Mason City with Kentucky and Louisville in state, have some kind of building filled with hundred dollar bills Breaking Bad style? Did Brookings, SD become some kind of financial mecca and I missed it? Has Evansville had some kind of overwhelming success that has donors lining up?
Our now 5 decades old plan of building things as cheaply as we can and then no following through on 'immediate upgrades' has gotten us so far behind the 8 ball that its now going to cost us double what it would have if we'd have done it right in the first place
NOTE--I have nothing but respect for the folks that did the fundraising for the Dome and McLeod. Those people are Panther heroes that have been let down by bad administration in following up on their vision and dreams.

On that note just came across UND completely rebuilding their old football stadium into a state of the art practice field with a new outdoor track around it. A new student athlete performance center. And to go with that a 5 story building mixed use building to honor the history of UND athletics, the future of UND athletics and public meeting spaces.

I am not saying that David Harris and others aren't to blame for a lack of facility improvements over the last 10 years, but one thing to also realize is that as a whole UNI does not have as many wealthy graduates as some of these colleges you have been mentioning, we have a ton of teachers and other jobs that serve people but don't have much of a salary.

Now, I'm just a lowly UNI grad that isn't wealthy and serves people but despite my shortcomings, it would appear that our profile is pretty darn similar to our peers who are lapping us at every opportunity. The only little concession I might make is South Dakota State (and even then we know how those engineers are so giving and free with their money) because there are no P5s in state but they also have a fraction of the population so it evens out.
We're all freaking Normal Schools that became regional universities. We're not competing against the Big Ten and Ivy League here.#MACtion

The one caveat that SDSU (and USD and, but to a much lesser extent, NDSU and UND) is we don’t have Denny Sanford who has single handed transformed Sioux Falls, and every athletic complex in the area.
It’s not their mechanical engineers. Also while he may have given some to sdsu he hasn’t been the main guy. You know that because his name is in/has to be on everything he touches. Literally every complex he touches becomes the “Denny Sanford XXXXXXX”
that hasn’t happened in brookings, but is how USD got their miniature McLeod Center.

Hartzell & company found Clark McLeod. That always seemed out of the blue. But there has to be the next McLeod out there somewhere.
In all honesty, find the the most vain rich Republican you can get, offer to put their name on the project, and then pitch for state legislative support for the project. It's slimy, but that's how you get things done.__________________
