A 1 year player to take 10 minutes a night at the point would be ideal. Doesn't have to be a spectacular player by any means just has to be Hunter Rhodes or Pete Schmidt or Matt Morrison.

You're right BC, Matt Morrison was not a spectacular player, but he did have a spectacular game the last time we beat Hoiberg's Cyclones in Ames. He threw in four clutch 3-pointers to go along with Tuttle's dominant game over ISU's Royce White. An "MM"-type guard would be ideal to round out this roster!

I do think Weisbrod is a proven shooter, even at the lower level. Bond isn't an outside shooter. Schweiger? Maybe... Schmitt? Meh, I'm not convinced he gets many minutes. I don't see Redek getting many minutes. Hornseth isn't a 3 point threat. I don't see RJ turning into that guy either. Does Pock step up? Possibly, but he really struggled down the stretch last year. Am I wrong in thinking that we really only have three somewhat legitimate 3 point threats (Campbell, Pock, Weisbrod)? That includes two guys who are very much unproven at this level - although as I said before, I think Weisbrod is a guy who will be just fine in the Valley. It could be a good change of style for us, but 3 point shooting is more important than ever is todays game. Otherwise, maybe I'm just way off here and dudes will step up, but I'm skeptical. Regardless, I think we need another piece to this puzzle. I hope we don't just pocket the last ride.
Schweiger will be our best 3-baller. Hutson and Tytan are critical to our success in the frontcourt. Key will be getting a slasher to complement Schweiger and competent play at pg. Our pg play didn’t move the needle this year and was the elephant in the room imo. To me, it’s the absolute key next year

        • Wes can shoot it a little too. Shouldn't be a major factor in that category but assuming he's taking Cole's minutes, that's a net add

          • Pock should take a step forward in his sophomore season. Yes, he faded hard last season, but that happens a lot to freshmen who aren't used to such a long grind of a season.

              2x DPOY
              Finalist for D3 National POY

Yes, D3 is D3. Whatever, but the kid can play, and clearly at a level well above D3. He had 11 points 2 boards 2 assists 1 steal against us in a scrimmage to start the season. Minnesota just signed a D3 kid as well.

Again, it's been pointed out many times, Ben Humrichous was at a couple of NAIA schools before landing at Evansville last year. Had he stayed healthy all season he would have had a legit shot at 1st team all Valley. As a junior at that NAIA, he averaged 12 points and 5 rebounds on 46% from 2 and 35% shooting from deep playing 32 minutes per game. As a sophomore, he averaged 11 points and 5 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Cael's 4 seasons at Coe went

15.2 points 2.2 boards 4.4 assists 2 steals on a shooting slash line of 47.4/35.9/86.2
12.7 points 2.1 boards 4.0 assists 2 steas on a shooting slash line of 40.9/38.5/65.2 - his worst season overall
17.8 points 3.2 boards 3.3 assists 2 steals on a shooting slash line of 40.8/40.1/73.6
17.6 points 3.0 boards 3.0 assists 2.4 steals on a shooting slash line of 43.8/36.0/69.1

No one is going to claim he is going to be a starter playing 30 minutes per game. The kid, clearly, can play though. Worst case scenario he is the 4th option on the wing, players a few minutes per game but is a real pest defensively when he is out there. He has the upside, for a one-year scholarship, to be a real solid piece that could play 10-15 minutes a night and not have it be painful to watch because we just don't have anyone else.
I don’t think it fair to hype Cael too much, the Courier article listed his other D1 offers and the best one was the Citadel, who I didn’t even realize was D1. He really should be a walk-on, but maybe in the NIL era where you can’t stash kids and develop them, the 11-13 scholarships are really just walk-on types.

              • Yeah, I think the more I look at the roster I would ultimately prefer another shooter over a point guard. If we can kill two birds with one stone, that would be great, but I'm guessing a point that also shoots the 3 well is probably not within reach. The lack of known shooting commodities concerns me a bit more than the point. I'm not ultimately too concerned either way, but I do think a true sniper from outside would be ideal to help stretch the defense. I am hopeful that Pock takes a big step this offseason. I love his shot and think he is more than capable. If he shoots closer to 35% at his size we will be in great shape.

I would read it the same. I think we are done baring someone falling into our lap last minute.
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

                    • Let's assume we're done.

                      If I eyeball minutes...

                      Taylor 25
                      Campbell 32
                      Bond 25
                      Anderson 28
                      Hutson 22

                      Weisbrod 20
                      Schwieger 18
                      Pock 15
                      Rubin 12

That was my take, too, disappointed in the sense that at least one more legit D1 talent player seems like it would help, especially if we have any injuries. Excited for Bond, Weisbrod and Schweiger, but we’re basically 2 injuries away from a repeat of two years ago.

That’s an abominable 3 pt shooting starting 5. That’s a lineup that would kill teams in 1999, but it not compatible with 2025 basketball.

Let's see what a year older RJ looks like. He was 38% his last year in high school and with a full summer and a year of experience, I'm not writing him off.

Plus, I just don't see a world where Bond doesn't start so the only other alternative is starting Weisbrod so that you've got two combo guards co-running the offense with Campbell.

                            • I agreed with the 3-point shooting concerns for BC's starting 5, but it also seems like that's what it's going to be as of right now. Keep in mind that the starting 5 may not be playing together that much throughout the game. I could see where Weisbrod or Schwieger come in at or before the first timeout. Adding either of those to the lineup would improve the overall 3-point shooting of the group on the floor.

It will be interesting to see if the offensive style changes this year or if we continue to run something similar to the last few years.

                              • I hope Weisbrod is the real deal. That might be the key to success next season. You've seen a lot of great D2 players come in and make an immediate impact in the Valley. He was the POY in his league. Schmitt was on the radar for national D3 POY, but that is such a jump from D3 to the Valley the odds of success are much lower.

Schweiger is a wildcard too. You almost want to be good enough where he ISN'T a major contributor (like Loyola this year compared to last). But he also might simply be a different player with more opportunity.

Crazy how similar all their handwriting is based on their signatures.
