Not sure the at-large situation was quite that dire; as has been pointed out we got one last year. But it's not common for the MVC to ever get an at-large in softball. In 2012 we were 38-16 behind Jamie Fisher, won the MVC easily but were upset 1-0 in the conference tournament, and that was it. That one hurt...

My own guess for this year is if we play Missouri State in the championship game and lose a close one, we have a shot. Maybe not a great shot, but a shot.

Panthers won the first game of today's double-header at Bradley 7-1.
Then when I pulled up the live stats to check on the progress of game 2, it said 7-1 in the top of the 7th, so I thought maybe the live stats had frozen or something. But the ESPN3 video feed confirmed it, and UNI went on to win the 2nd game 8-1.
Regular season finale tomorrow afternoon and then on to the conference tournament.

looks like they went on to win 9-1. Will face the winner of Illinois State and MSU tomorrow in the championship game.

Barring a late comeback, it looks like it will be Missouri State. Let's hope chalk holds through tomorrow as well.

Beat them 1-0 in 137 mile an hour winds in our only other meeting.

In other news, that Nebraska team we beat in the Dome last February is in the Big Ten championship game

Up 3 to 2 in top of 4th. Currently in lightning delay

Not sure about that obstruction call at 2B. Hogan was on top of the bag, not in front of it, and the batter could have chosen to slide for a clear path to the bag.

The pitching change has not gone well...

Very disappointing change of game since the delay

probably about 1.5 innings left in the UNI softball season unless they can get a bunch of offense in their next 6 outs.

In many ways, it's the most UNI season possible. Suck in the non-conference, dominate the conference, lose to Iowa and/or Iowa State, lose in the conference tournament, and ultimately end up outside of the post-season.

But like I said before, this team is set to bring back basically everyone next year, which ought to be fun.
