  • Women's Basketball 2022-2023

Women's basketball is back. Picked 2 finish 5th in the conference. I think it should be higher. Season begins with exhibition vs Cornell on November 1st 6pm at home.

I won't be surprised if we find a way to finish 3rd. McDermott is ready to take over from Rucker, and I think Green/Laube can fill in nicely for Kroeger. We have Wolf and Boffeli inside, with McCullough for back up. And we still have Finley. Adam DeJoode had commented that Bri Gunnels might be the hardest to replace (now playing in Finland), and he might be right, though again we still have inside experience.

It will be interesting to see if Belmont and Murray St live up to their preseason ranking. Drake, though always playing their best against us, was wildly inconsistent last season. I know Missouri St had Franklin transfer to Tennessee, but I can't imagine they won't still be tough.

Looks like we're back to purple road uniforms, after several years in black.

I think 3rd is a fair assessment. We are going to miss Bri a lot. Cynthia can block some but no where as well as Bri.

I just noticed that Sara McCullough is no longer on the roster - anyone hear what happened there? I thought she was a reliable big coming off the bench. I knew the Barneys and McKee had left, but McCullough is news to me.

Hadn't heard anything about McCullough. 2 comments from tonight.

          1) Coach Warren please make your team have more free throw practice. Team shot like 33%. At one time, Grace missed 7 in a row.

          2) What the heck was that video before player introductions? Was it on half speed? It was awful. Embarrassing.

Yes Sara McCullough transferred. Not sure where though.

Panthers take on 20th ranked Creighton today in the McLeod center at 2pm. Another tough game. Let's hope free throw shooting gets better.

We typically play them close, though AFAIK they are mostly the same team that beat both Iowa and ISU last spring. So far this season they've beat South Dakota, SDSU (both there), and Nebraska by 26. An interesting mix of big guards and power forwards that can all hit 3's.

She did not transfer. Still at uni. Gave up basketball for personal reasons…

                      Thanks '73.

Green getting a couple of minutes and looking good.

Panther 73. Thank you for the clarification. Sad to see her not on the roster.

A positive from today's game: We made 12 out of 13 free throws. 92%.

Women opened conference play tonight with a victory over Bradley 84 to 64. We were down 5 at half. Only scored 12 points in the second quarter. Came out at scored 34 points in the 3rd. Up next Illinois State on Sunday.

                              That 3rd quarter was sweet!

The Redbirds are going to be a challenge on Sunday. I watched part of their replay vs Drake, and they were up 20+ at one time.
