  • Moore transfers to UNI from OSU

From the Waterloo Courier, June 4, 2018:

"Northern Iowa's wrestling team landed one of the top transfers in the nation when Oklahoma State red-shirt freshman Keegan Moore confirmed to The Courier Monday he is leaving the Cowboys to wrestle for the Panthers.

Moore will join brother Paden, a junior to be, on UNI's roster. Moore will have three years of eligibility left and projects anywhere from 174 to 197. The Moore's older brother, Cooper, wrestled at UNI from 2012 to 2017 and was a three-time NCAA qualifier."

    Entire read:

    "Well, that escalated quickly."

This is excellent news! I know a lot of fans were disappointed when he chose OSU out of Jackson Central. But very happy to have him in CF. Now, finding a place for him next year will be tough but after that the sky's the limit.

I'm surprised there are no restrictions on transferring to another program in the same conference. But then I don't really follow wrestling all that closely, so perhaps there are fewer transfer restrictions there than in other sports.

He's going to have to sit out next year and lose a year of eligibilty but he wasn't going to beat out Foster anyway and he can wrestly unattached all year.

UNI is loaded at those weights for next year. A year of working with those guys sets him up for all kinds of success.

According to the article in the DM Register, he received an unconditional release from OSU and he is immediately eligible with three years remaining. He redishirted his first year in Stillwater and qualified for the NCAA tourney in his redshirt freshman season in March.

Yeah he's not going to have to sit out, but he'll defacto sit out anyway unless he can bump off Foster or gain weight and knock off Holschlag.
