Would love to hear an explanation (we won’t) of the why and how millions of dollars were put into renovating the wrestling room and locker rooms of West Gym and now less than 5 years later the building has to be bulldozed.
I bet the generous people who donated for that project are thrilled.

No, it wasn't Harris' decision to close West Gym, because that call was made by the people who determine whether or not a building is safe to be in or not. Every building on campus has a facility plan. They know the life of the roof, and when to budget for replacement. Same for tuckpointing, HVAC, etc. At some point, someone or a group of somebodies decided it was acceptable to defer scheduled maintenance on the building without having any other long-term plan in place to relocate those who use the facility. That's wrong. The regents should be asking these questions. The media should be asking these questions. But nobody, except us hard core fans seem to care.__________________

How many times have we heard this line? An announcement is forthcoming... very soon. But maybe later next month... When we hope you will have forgotten.Finally, I’ve learned behind the scenes there will be an announcement on plans for raising funds for a new training facility, one that replicates and expands on what the Panthers have had, coming as soon as next week but possibly later in October.

I have it on good account the roof has had issues going back 15 or more years. They also said one of the women’s restrooms has been unusable since that time due to the roof leaks. Not addressing those issues likely caused other, more severe structural issues. The decision to forego general maintenance was made long, long ago. And, the West Gym future was determined at that time.
That said, this didn’t happen overnight. Harris had a chance to get in front of it, and like many things, is now trying to dig out.
