The latest. Just by reading between the lines I think that my dream is coming true of moving rasslin back into the McLeod, where it's deserved to be since we started selling out the West Gym.
It does not appear West Gymnasium is on the National Registry of Historical Places, and given it's age, significance, and relatively unaltered condition, it seems like a prime candidate for that designation. It might also tie the hands of the university, if they are trying to demo or significantly change the building into something else.
So are they fixing the west gym problems, or is it not going to be “home” in the future?
“They” as in David Harris and his administration will not be fixing anything, as they have neither the ambition or ability to actually do their job to fundraise and solve problems.
They will stay silent, hope nobody notices that they have done literally nothing, and simply allow the building to be decommissioned.
Good for you. Hope you bring 7,000+ of your friends to get a sell out.
The Iowa State dual will be 4000ish, about what they had for Okie State a couple years ago. The Wisconsin dual will be....not good.
No, sir! That's exactly the idea. NOT bring 7,000 sos that I can have plenty of elbow room and don't have to get there an hour before to get MY seat.
The idea of a sellout, although a glamorous thought, is folly, given both venues. If you can only get 2,200 into the West Gym WHY NOT rassle in a venue that surpasses that, which we will do nearly every dual, at this pernt. School makes more money and I'm happy. A win-win for all parties!
Being that the gym felt like a sardine can again last night-I'm one of the few THRILLED to see rasslin move to the McLeod and have advocated for it for years-I can't help but wonder that if the decision was made before the season to move rasslin to the McLeod, then why wasn't it just done for the entire season this year?
Once again, could have sold a lot more tickets than just 600-700.

Baloney. He gets funds to the program like I've not seen in 25 years, and I've yet to not see him at a post-season tournament. What more do you expeck?
Now, shall we talk about the "support" from the ADs during the Penrith years?
I know, for a fact, that the wrestling program has raised more money than they've gotten back for certain projects.
Not to mention the debacle that was the wrestling room renovation and how that was handled (I know, different administration).
And I'm not sure who you're talking about when you say, "I've yet to not see him." I assume you mean Harris?
Now that Michelle is back, communication efforts are much better/accurate again. And there's no excuse to have to hire the coach's wife to run the teams social when your SID quits. As has been discussed in other threads, there's a lot more the university can do to increase fan interaction.
Just to follow up on that - I think it would absolutely shock some people at how little support the wrestling squad gets from the athletic department. Even discounting all the fundraising that Schwab and his staff do, and how they ask for very little of it back in return.
Maybe not people on this fine, high quality website. But just the general public.

This seems to be a theme. See Farley finding funding for the team room and practice field himself.
Former Panther All-Conference defensive player Jamar Thompson, now an assistant athletic director whose primary responsibility is raising money for the athletic department, led the fundraising effort for the team room, with the majority of the money coming from other former Panther players.

Schwab does amazing considering he's given no support.
