  • NWCA National Duals

Event in the Dome today and tomorrow. South Dakota State might be the only other team here worth mentioning. UNI wrestled Sacred Heart in their first dual and won 38-7. Starters wrestled each weight except Rahnavardi at 157 (he won), Fox at 174 (he lost), and Ahrendson at 285 (he lost by MD). Anderson got a forfeit at 125. Only things I thought were notable were that Realbuto got put on his back during his 17-11 win - he was up 16-4 at one point. Ahrendson also got put on his back - he was up 5-3 in the 3rd period before getting majored. Lots of bonus points, which is good, but Sacred Heart's lineup isn't spectacular.

I think UNI wrestles Ohio at noon today (1/10). That'll be it for today, then 2 duals tomorrow, and I'm guessing it'll be SDSU that UNI meets in the championship dual. CSU Bakersfield is here, which is where AJ Ferrari is, but they got smashed by Northern Colorado so UNI probably won't wrestle them. Would like to see how Voelker does against him but it won't happen

my bad, Arkansas-Little Rock is also here, and is a solid team. Northern Colorado also has some studs

Ohio dual was a little more interesting. UNI wrestled starters at every weight. Notable matches included Simma losing to #7 Thompson 5-3 and Runyon pinning #27 Greer. Ohio has the #15 kid at 157 but he didn't wrestle Downey. UNI won this one 48-3.

UNI wrestles Northern Colorado tomorrow at 11 AM. They have some hammers at 125 and 141, and are solid at 133 and 157. Should be some good matches in those lower weights.

Many thanks for bringing us up to speed, asihe. I plan to attend tomorrow.

Any comments on the crowd size, the way the tourney was run, etc.?

Crowd seemed more sparse than I thought it would be, but I really have no idea what to expect out of an event like this regarding attendance. Seemed like it was running well though - 32 mats were always going.

I'm not there today, just following on Track. Alirez didn't wrestle Happel, so the Northern Colorado match wasn't as close as it maybe could have been. Farber had a nice MD over #13. Anderson hung with Poulin and only lost by decision. Assuming Little Rock doesn't get a pin at 285, we should be facing SDSU later today

Was there for both Northern Colorado and SDSU today.

Our 31-3 win over SDSU for the Duals Championship smoked our early season home win over them (17-16 on criteria). I am so proud of this team.

Felt like we scored a lot of nice wins and nobody lost to anybody they shouldn't have. Simma beat DeVos again. Farber had at least one nice win against a guy ranked higher than him. Hope we're not peaking too early, but probably even more likely that this team is just really good and we haven't even begun to peak.
