    UNI BB Banquet

    I heard on a sports talk show that UNI's BB banquet was scheduled for April 18th and Coach Mac, who was on the show invited the public to attend. We've been season ticket holders the last few years, but have never attended the banquet. Honestly, I didn't know it was open to the public. My wife and I are thinking about attending but wanted to know: Has anyone been to one of these types of banquets before? What are they like?

    We have sure enjoyed watching Gruber and Schneids the last couple of years and thought it would be nice to have a good turnout to show those two that what they have done for UNI basketball has not gone unnoticed. My 6 year old boy is going to miss those two.

    I'm not sure if it has been open to the public in recent years. I have been to one of these before. It's worth the money, IMO....plus it's a great way to send off these seniors. Usually the meal is first, followed by an opening speech by Mac. Then, there is usually some awards that are presented, and followed by acknowleding the players by class. Then, they have also discussed the state of the program as it is now, and then what the future holds for UNI. That has been the best that I can remember in regards to the basic material covered. With a MVC Tourney Championship, there might be some added things involved in the banquet. Did he say where it will be this year and how to get reservations?

      I found out that it's scheduled for 1:00 PM on Sunday, April 18th at the UNI Dome. You can call 273-7609 to reserve your tickets. I am looking forward to it. BTW, this isn't anything formal is it? I wasn't going to put the Purple & Gold war paint on, but I wasn't planning on getting dressed up.

        In the past it has been nice pants and a nice polo or long sleeve shirt. Nothing too formal, just not regular jeans and a sweatshirt.

              UNI BB Banquet

              In recent years, season tickets holders were notified of the banquet and the general public might have found out about it through the Courier newspaper but frankly until the last year or two, it hasn't been well attended outside of the players parents and hardcore fans. It has been held recently at the St. Patrick's Church Hall with about 100 people as an average attendance. I'm sure with the success of this year's team and the growing fan base, the Dome was chosen in anticipation of larger attendance. Since it's usually held on a Sunday afternoon, appropriate attire is dressy casual. Hopefully with the increased number of televised games this year, there will be some good footage of highlights shown on the jumbotron, if they have gotten that put together. It's always an enjoyable event and the coaches usually try to have a player sit at each fan table, if possible.
