Just like Richmond all over today. When will our coaching staff figure it out?

pathetic. We just let them throw right down the field again. Same story as the last several years.

        Re: prevent defense

I posted this in the game thread and I will say personally, if we are going to lose, I would rather lose to a pass where their offense beats our defense with a long pass. The number of times that has happened has been almost zero over the past few years(minus the flea-flickers), and we would have a chance to march down the field if that did happen. I am sick of seeing this year in and year out....

As much as I would like to agree, my senior year in high school we were up 5 in a game with 6 seconds left and the first playoff berth in 15 years for our school on the line. Our coach put us in a 5-3. () Our secondary got burnt on a 40+ yard touchdown as time expired. Worst moment of my life, period.

So, at most schools a 7-4 record would be a good season, but not for us and not with the way our season started. Do we make any coaching changes on either side of the ball? I didn't see today's game, but by the looks of it we had the wrong defense at the end of the game. I did see Richmond last year and was very disappointed in our play on both sides of the ball at the end of the game.

I beleive in responding versus reacting, but what a horrible way to end the season (as far as we know). What needs to change? I wouldn't be opposed to doing something with the coaches, as long as it's within reason and well-thought out and needed.

BTW, I saw that Davis took more snaps than Grace today on the box score. Did PG get hurt, or was he just awful?

Big difference between playing prevent for the last play and prevent for the last series. One is smart, one is not.

PG got knocked out (possibly literally unconscious) in the first half, getting blindsided by a blocker when he was trying to make a tackle after throwing an interception.

Offense struggled through the whole first half, and part of the second, but made some plays in the later third of the game. Don't really know if it was playcalling problems as much as execution. Maybe a mix of both.

Defense kept the team in the game for all but the final 43 seconds.

They went after both QBs far away from the play and I dare say that it was planned. Not cool.

                        Re: prevent defense

You're right Cap'n. Davis got in a bit of a skirmish on that interception at the end of the first half. Looked like he and the d-back were both throwing punches at each other.

If that is something that the new staff is teaching in Normal, its classless garbage...

                          Re: prevent defense

I kind of agree with don't go into a prevent defense too early.

I'm wondering also if not kicking it deep was wise. What did the kick look like to anyone who was there or had better video than I did?

Kick deep, watch out for reverses/laterals - have one or two people hold back just a bit. May have saved us 20 yards.

                            Re: prevent defense

The kick just never took the big hops that most squib kicks do. It just rolled on the ground to one of the up men. It wasn't a good choice, and it was poorly executed by Hallgren. Bad play all around...
