    Re: 2 Important Observations

harassing the opposing band is in poor taste (as in harassing opposing teammates/coaches), unless of course they start something by trash talking to the fans (then they're fair game).

of course, some folks consider such things to be "part of the fun" or "part of home field advantage". But it kind of depends on what exactly is said.

One of my roommates is in the band. He didn't hear or see anything at the game that would suggest it involved the band as culprit/victim. Last year, however he said a creepy dude sitting behind the band was yelling at the flute players for phone numbers

wasn't me. I'm more into violin players.

          (I'm easily confused)
Security came and took the horn guy's horn. It happens every other game or so. I know he's bought like 50 of them though so he just goes out to his car at halftime and gets another one. Everybody in like 2 sections heckles the security people.

ah, I see. and a quick google research trip has turned up some background on the "horn guy" situation (or at least the 2009 "horn guy", dunno if this is the same guy, or if the tradition has been passed on)

Iowa State Daily editorial - cyclonefanatic thread

don't have enough interest in the matter personally to read all the content. if the guy really only blows the horn after cyclone first downs, as the editorial seems to suggest, then I say see if the guy is willing to sign an agreement of sorts that states that the horn won't be used to try and disrupt the opposition, and the school could grant him an exemption to the "no artificial noisemakers" policy. However, I suspect that part of the "fun" of that "tradition" is the whole "defiance" thing. So they'll continue to play out the charade of security confiscating the illegal noisemaker (while oftentimes returning it after the game, it sounds like), the crowd chastising security, and they horn guy either getting the horn back, or picking up another cheap replacement and continueing the cycle at the next game.

At least it's not a damn cowbell.
