  • Spring Game

Figured it's worth its own thread, but the Spring game is tonight and I have no idea what to expect after last season. It'll be interesting to see who takes over at QB.

I am liking this new offense. Hopefully it will go well.

      Offense did look good.

Receivers open in space a lot and relatively easy throws for the QBs....throwing into big windows.

Uses the whole field and makes the D defend a lot of ground. Players seemed pretty comfortable running it.

We've got a nice stable of skill position guys and the QBs both looked capable of running that scheme.

Would've liked to see the 2nd half and see some of the younger guys play...but the broadcast ended. I did like that they showed all the game action this year...for the first hour.

Some new faces on D with Nunes, Devil, Robbie Peterson, etc getting good looks. Noticed the JUCO DE who came in last year Anybody Know? went with the starting D.

At the WR spot I noticed Grant Larkin getting some balls. Good to see him back off that knee injury last year.

JC Roque looks to have moved from RB to slot/WR which I like. I expect him to have a good year in 2024. Great spot for him on this offense.

Tay Norman out of Waterloo showed up with a catch or 2 last night. He always seemed perhaps a bit too slight physically...but he's clearly done some work and starting to look the part. A pretty smooth athlete.

        Kershaw didn't play last night.

Buntin and Ellis-Lahey will get a lot of balls this year. EL is a heck of a player...hope he likes this offense and stays in CF.

Lane Pryor looks even stronger this year. Would be like tackling a dump truck. That's an NFL body. Hopefully he gets 20+ balls this year and gets to show his stuff for the league.

The biggest take away for me last night was the crowd. I'll bet there were 3000 there for a freaking spring game.

There was energy, people were having a good time. Concessions were open, they were selling beer and they used the video board really well to promote tickets and the upcoming year.

Night and day difference from what previous spring games have been like. Amazing what happens when the leadership of the department gives a ****.

That kids clinic seems to be going over well. Good idea all around.

And in my observation....combining beer sales + sports tends to be popular in America. It's a theory.

I was also impressed with how many people were there, having a free kids camp before is such an easy idea that brings people in.

My biggest take away was that our skilled guys seem to be ahead of our lines, especially the D Line, I think we might need to look for a guy or two to add some beef to the D Line.
