        UNI wins 90-61

        Highlights:

        Viet 22 pts, 1 reb (6-8 from 3)
Coleman 14 pts, 4 rebs, 3 asts (7-9 from the floor)
        Eglseder- 8 pts, 7 rebs, 2 blks, 1 stl
        Dunham- 8 pts, 1 reb, 2 stl, 0 to
        Brown- 8 pts, 2 rebs, 1 ast

We shot 57% from the floor and 42% from deep. I hope this hot 3 point shooting never goes cold this year.

        We outrebounded them 37-20.

We shot 85% from the line. Also hope this keeps up.

        Needs improvement:

Gave up 15 pts of turnovers and only got 9 pts off turnovers.

Had 12 TO to their 11.

        Only had 4 fastbreak pts.

Overall, considering all the injuries we've had, I would say these were two rather successful exhibition "games." It will be interesting to see who gets the minutes when the season starts...and who starts for that matter. Should be a fun year, I hope everything comes together and we're dancing in March!

Can anyone who was there give us a firsthand report on how everyone looked and your feelings after watching them about this year. Thanks.

            Well.

They definately looked better than last time.

Big E looks to have improved big time over the summer. He has developed a mid range game.

Koch hasnt impressed or unimpressed in the two exhibition games, we'll have to wait until the season to see where he stands.

Montgomery looks like he will be a solid player, I'm glad we have him especially with the absence of Reed.

Coleman, Brown and Josten look pretty much like they did last year.

Kerwin Dunham played solid- he is a surprisingly solid defensive player too. I think he will start, at least until our hurt players get back.

Lucas O'Rear the freshman looks pretty solid in the two exhibitions. He will be a good 4th big man this year.

Adam Viet had one of his days, he had 22 points and 6 threes.

Drew Lundberg is a tough cookie. He is a point guard, and he is fun to watch. Not a shooter but he can dribble and is tough.

            PS- Who is Joe Green?
            Sincerely,
The Future AD of the University of Northern Iowa

Oh and Brent Barz, the former Johnston Dragon, scored 4 points in 2 minutes. He is redshirting this year but I think he has a bright future ahead of him.

Thanks JoeCool. I was hoping for a lot from Koch this year after the way he came on at the end of last year. Hopefully he will get rolling soon.

Jordan got really frustrated in the second half and it led to forced shots and bad fouls. I don't care if he's capable of hitting or not, it almost makes me physically ill to see him shoot three point shots...

Lucas O'Rear impressed me a ton. He has great quickness in the post and his type of hardworking attitude will lead to Valley rebounding titles in the future.

I hope the decision has been made to not redshirt Montgomery, I was really impressed with him again today. Very smart player that does a great job of using his athleticism to his advantage.

Josten really struggled today as well. He got yanked at one point and PJ Hogan was giving it to him pretty well on the bench.

Travis Brown was real good again today. He looks a lot more comfortable on the defensive end and putting the ball on the floor.

Kerwin Dunham is ready to break out and have an impact you just get the feeling that he is a player that will do anything to get a W.

Eric Coleman was Eric Coleman. He didn't get many minutes so the young guys could play. I think he does bring another dynamic coming off the bench and I think you will see him in that role next weekend...

I am going to have to disagre with Joe on two players...

Lundburg is in WAY over his head at this point. He can't really handle the pressure on the ball at this point. He is WAY behind where McKowen was as a freshman. We need to get Ahelegbe back playing as soon as possible...

I also think that Koch is 1000 times more comfortable, he did some really nice things on the defensive end and showed a midrange game on offense. He is going to be a really nice player.

Funny no one mentions Jordan shooting threes until he misses one. If someone can make threes at a decent clip, BOMBS AWAY! That's my opinion anyway.

I have no problem with Jordan shooting 3's, if its in the offensive framework. We have used our bigs to shoot all along (Stout, Schneiderman) no reason to change, and he looks more confident at it right now than Koch, though I'm hoping Koch can nail a few and gain his confidence. O'Rear also looks smooth from outside.

I agree with those that say Lundberg is struggling right now. I think the speed and physicality of the college game is ahocking him right now, but I liked the fact that he showed some feistiness today, even getting called for an offensive foul when he launched his defender with a forearm. Good to see if he's going to play against the Creighton's, Drake's and SIU's.

Koch looked good on defense with quickness. I can see him even getting a spell at the 3 if we want to go big with EC, Jordan and/or O'Rear playing 4/5.

O'Rear continues to impress and I think will be a super player for four years. He can handle the ball, crash the glass, is strong in the post on both ends and can step out and hit shots. Nice all around game.

Agree on Montgomery, I think he needs to play. He has some nice skills and can give us some size at the guard position.

Liked seeing Dunham look to shoot. He is another youngster that has different skill sets that add to our team.

In all, I like the variety of talents that we have for this team. We've got a lot of mix and match capabilities to attack other teams' weaknesses and make us harder to prepare for. We have gone 10 deep in two exhibition games with two starters not even playing. I hope we can see that kind of rotation continue and that each player is prepared to step in when called on.

The biggest question is still guard play and some people who never thought highly of Brooks, well they may never be cured, but it will be apparent at different times this year how much he brought to the floor. I think we will do fine with Josten/Lundberg/Ahelegbe/even Haak in some combinations.

We are still really young, and that will show at times as well. There will good and bad, but I think far more good. Not sure how many, but we won't be playing on Thursday in St. Louis, and we may be making some bubbles as well.

I know that I am a bit prejudice but I really like the new crop of freshmen, they compliment last years group very well. I agree with Khan we are very young and it will show at times but there are going to be some great moments and the future looks bright. My final comment is in regards to Brent, he got into both games with 1:39 left, he was 1 for 1 from both the floor and the line in the first game and 1 for 1 from the floor and 2 for 2 from the line in the second game, after tonights game Coach Green stopped him and said "You never missed a shot and you averaged 3 1/2 points every minute and 39 seconds, you had great Season". Just thought that was kind of funny.

This year will be tough on Brent I'm sure, but Panther fans will be thrilled when he is able to take the floor for the cats next year.
