  • The Robert's Mayfair = DUMP!!!

That Hotel has no business being a host hotel for the MVC tourny....and this has nothing to with the fact that they gave my room away and put me up in the hotel across the street.

What was everyone's opinion of the Mayfair? This was the first time that the Mayfair hosted a team for the MVC tourny and I hope it was their last.

JC ... I said it going in, and after the weekend, I'll say it again. We stayed at the Crown Plaza. Older hotel, but HUGE rooms, nice lounge, great location. The best hotel we've stayed at in downtown. Time for others to do as we did this year and shopped around, in spite of where the team and other fans stayed. This was my favorite year in St. Louie. Mainly 'cause of the accomodations. BTW I heard lots of negative comments about the Mayfair this weekend.

Re: The Robert's Mayfair = DUMP!!!

Add me to the list of disappointed fans. For two months I have had those reservations. Even presented the confirmation email dated Jan 6th. I have called to confirm on multiple occasions, as recent as last Monday. When we showed up between games on Friday, we were told they gave our rooms out and we needed to move to the Radisson across the street. We went from purple and gold in the lobby of the Mayfair to the blood red of Bradley fans at the Radisson. Really disappointing.

To top it off, she insisted that we would be paying $40 off the rate we were going to pay at the Mayfair. For me, that would have meant a $69 per night room at the Radisson. That helped ease the pain a little. Of course, the man at the Radisson laughed in my face and told me they were not doing that rate...and that she shouldn't have told me that rate. Apparently, it is $40 off of the Radisson rate of $159. Funny, the story was sold a little differently.

How about the hotel "bar" after the Friday game? One bartender? One? He worked his tail off, but couldn't keep up. And the manger came up to apologize to the man as I was waiting for drinks.....but failed to offer a solution....like helping herself!

I hope we aren't locked in to them for a few years. They were a disappointment to us. And that's just from the "outside"....I never made it in to the rooms.

Very disappointing would be an understatement. Our room (and most other I think) had a nice 42" Flat Screen HDTV that had 20 channels and none of them came in clearly at all. No ESPN 2 or ESPNNews.

When we checked in, 2 of our lights were out in the bathroom. The first morning (we got there Wednesday) the coffemaker didnt work so they brought us up a new one. When they cleaned our room for the day they replaced it with one that didnt work again. We also had to go down and get new keys made EVERYDAY as after 11 they wouldnt work anymore. What a horrible hotel, hope we are NEVER there again.

Ah, the Roberts Mayfair... continuing to claim legions of pissed off customers. Whoever put in this bid on behalf of UNI should have consulted with some people I know who had these same stories to tell.

I hate tell you this....but when the lady at the Mayfair told my wife and I that we would have to still pay for our room at their (Mayfair's) rate, since we would have paid it had we stayed here in the first place. Well we came unglued....especially my wife....and demanded to talk to the manager.

A few minutes later we had Mayfair's staff carrying our bags over to the other hotel and when we checked out Sunday, we owed nothing...no hotel...no parking.

To add insult to injury....we had plumbing problems at the other hotel and had to call engineering twice to unclog our toilet. Don't ask, and it's not what you think. Anyway, they offered to take some off of our room...and when I told them the rooms were comped, they took off our 13 internet charge. I felt guilty the next morning when we got our bill and all that was on there was the 13 internet charge....and then I went to the front desk to have them remove it.

JC.................I think you wadded up your Mayfair reservation and threw it in the toilet at the other hotel!
Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier'n puttin' it back.

Again...It's not what you think. I must explain...since the Matt Trumps of the world are picturing JC on the toilet....dropping a deuce and....well you get the picture.

Anyway, the housekeeper that was taking care of our room was throwing the remaining soap from the shower down the toilet when she cleaned our room. Then after the first "flush" after our room was cleaned, we had overflow.

Kinda like that commercial with the hot plumber and the guy who wants his toilet to fail. Your hotel toilet was obviously not a Kohler.

                    (I think the commercial was Kohler . . .)

What a story. Your tempers must have exceeded mine to get the white glove treatment. Good for you-that was just pitiful service.

The only saving grace at the Radisson was that Bradley lost on Friday. Wearing purple felt pretty good.

I heard the same types of things about the Mayfair. People probably need to complain to the MVC tournament people to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I talked to Doug Elgin about it this morning as did AD Farley. Doug has asked that I detail the issues which Mark and I will do. The rooms weren't that bad but the lack of fan gathering space, lack of knowledge of the hotel staff etc were unacceptable. I indicated to him that we need a "family friendly and fan friendly" hotel. He agreed. It appears that someone simply dropped the ball on this one. If others of you wish to contact Doug you can locate his email address on the MVC homepage by clipping the icon "contact us".

Thanks PW...you are correct, I thought the rooms were very nice and the flat screen TV's were super nice. (Although they didn't work very well)

I also heard several people not having hot water for showers.
