  • Des Moines area radio question

I see that KXNO (1460) will now be the UNI affiliate in the DM area for UNI football. Great move...however, it is for football only and I do not see another station listed in this market. Is no station going to carry hoops down here this season?

See http://www.panthernation.com/showthread.php?t=18915 for more info but I believe hoops is not part of the deal due to ISU women's basketball. We'll take that as a great starting point and go from there. Hopefully they will have something in place for hoops too.
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

1700 "The Champ" should be the most obvious destination. They have no local basketball property with Iowa/ISU being on Clear Channel properties, and the Iowa Energy being on KXNO.

The one drawback to that would be the fact that 1700's signal is severly limited in the evening hours. They go from a 10k daytime signal to 1k at night, which is when most games are played.

One time I was on the road going up to Minneapolis, and the stock radio in the car was able to pick KXNO up almost to the Minnesota border. But, as is always the case with AM radio, results will depend on your particular radio quality, atmospheric conditions, ground moisture, etc.
