That is the dumbest thing i have ever read! I agree with the big ten on their response, Hartzell is one of the best refs in the nation. He has done some really big games in his career and never had a problem. IU fans and espn are just looking for something to complain about, because they are having a horrible year and they can accept the fact that they suck!

      Yeah, they suck...

10-6 in conference with 3 starting freshman. They are getting much better. They do complain though.....

Hartzell and UNI mentioned on the Jim Rome show..

John Feinstein today is talking about the controversy between the Big Ten and ESPN regarding Hartzell working the Wisconsin vs. Indiana game last week. His opinion is that the Big 10 is wrong and it wasn't fair to Hartzell, UNI, IU and even Wisconsin. anyway it's getting alot of pub.

Yeah, Hartzell isn't to blame here. He just did what he does (officiate) in a game he was assigned to do.
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

This whole thing is so dumb. Even if Hartzell was trying to change the outcome of the game there were 2 other officials there. Come on it must be a light news week if this is getting press.

I was listening to that too and Feinstein had Doug Gottleib on at the end of the show. Gottleib actually has called Hartzell and appologized. Basically Gottleib blamed the Big 10, not Hartzell for having him officiate that game. Its only a matter of time, this will all be over by the end of the week. Then, the national media will find something new to complain. They'll probably complain about how the ACC and Big East don't get their entire conferences in the big dance.

                Conspiracy Theory

This would have been a good conspiracy theory and I'm surpised the chumps on the Indiana board didn't think of if already.

Hartzell finds a way to turn the Ohio State v. Illinois game in Illinois's favor, thus Iowa gets the 6 seed in the BTT (as opposed to a 7 seed as a result of the OSU win), a better chance of making some noise in the Big Ten Tourny, and possibly an at-large bid. Bowlsby, as thanks to Hartzell for help getting the Hawks in the Dance makes a push, as head of the selection committee, for the Panthers to get in as an at-large bid. A little quid pro quo.

Of course this is ludacris and this is one of the dumbest news stories to have legs in the past year, but I kind of thought this was funny.

Speaking of chumps, this was hashed out on the IU board within hours. You're not ahead of the curve here.

Jeez, FM, you seem to taking a dig at me. I don't troll the IU site, I wasn't trying to be ahead of the curve. I was just thinking of something as equally ridiculous as the theory currently posed against Hartzell in the national media. I apologize if someone on another site had already thought of it.

                    Go Panthers!

Yeah, it was a bit of dig, no more so than the use of "chumps and Indiana" in the same sentence in your original post. This Hartzell story should die a quick death, but I am sure that it will drag on.....

I am within months of being an IU alum, so I am touchy. I am also a UNI alum and get a kick out of getting some digs in with friends in Indiana.
