  • Friday's Games of Interest

Georgia Tech vs. Virginia Tech 1PM--GT is probably in, but we don't want VT sneaking in...want a GT win
Indiana vs. Minnesota 1:30PM--Want Minnesota to win...a loss by Indiana busts their bubble
Iowa St. vs. Texas Tech 2PM--Want Iowa State to win...a win helps our RPI, and a loss by TT drops them below our RPI permanently (not that they won't be in, but it improves our RPI).
UAB vs. Louisville 3:30PM--Want Louisville to win, just in case UAB isn't in yet. UAB's RPI is not very good...Go Cardinals!
Holy Cross vs. Bucknell 3:30PM--want Holy Cross to win, so that it eliminates another bubble team (b/c they would get the automatic bid)
St. Joes vs. Xavier 5:30PM--want St.Joes to win
Iowa vs. Michigan St. 5:40PM--want Michigan St. to knock Iowa off their bubble, and maybe help SMS move up in the RPI
NC St. vs. Wake Forest 6PM--want Wake to win so that NC St. doesn't creap back into the bubble conversation, b/c I think they are done!
Ohio vs. Miami (OH) 6PM--want Miami (OH) to win so that they can win the automatic bid, instead of being an "at-large selection".
Temple vs. George Washington 7:45PM--a loss for GW probably eliminates an "at-large" bid
Utah vs. UNLV 8PM--we want Utah to win their tourney
Pacific vs. CS-Northridge 8PM--we want Pacific to win their tourney
Rice vs. UTEP 8PM--we want UTEP to win their tourney now that Nevada is out
Arizona vs. Oregon St. 8:15PM--we want Arizona or Washington to win tourney...not Oregon St.
Buffalo vs. Western Michigan 8:15PM--a loss for Buffalo drops them out of the bubble discussion (most likely) and a WMU win helps our RPI.
Cal St. Fullerton vs. Utah St. 10:30PM--we don't want Utah St. to win their tourney
Stanford vs. Washington 10:45PM--a loss by Stanford might keep some doubt around as to if they are in or out...I still have them as a bubble team, so I would like to see them lose to a team that is in for sure.
SDSU vs. New Mexico 11PM--I have New Mexico in, but the "big-timers" don't...so any loss by New Mexico is a good loss for us...plus it could drop their RPI below 95...maybe they aren't in like I thought.
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

Indiana lost, which busts their bubble.
Georgia Tech won, which puts them in for sure, and keeps Va.Tech out.

That means there are now 13 bubble teams going for 8 spots. A win by Holy Cross would be good today.

Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. SI.com bubble update

      This just in from SI.com

"Northern Iowa (21-10) moves into the field of 65 -- for now -- in the spot vacated by Indiana."

As I voted in the poll, I think the Valley gets 4 teams in. Everything seems to be falling into place for us. Even if the MVC only gets three bids, I think UNI is ahead of WSU because of how the teams finished.

            Here's the scenario.

With NC State's win, they are back now a bubble team.

            Yesterday's good things:
Louisville beat UAB---UAB is squarely on the bubble. RPI of 49, and 0-5 vs. top 50...are 5-5 in last 10...21-10 record.
St. Joes beat Xavier---keeps St. Joes in hunt to win conf. tourney.
Utah beat UNLV---keeps Utah in the finals for a potential championship (leaving New Mexico on the bubble)
Pacific beat Cal St. Northridge---Pacific meets Utah St. today in the finals...if Pacific wins, another bubble team will be done
UTEP beat Rice---we want UTEP to win tourney today vs. Boise St.
Arizona beat Oregon St.---keeps the Beavers out of the tourney, and 'Zona in the finals with fellow NCAA team Washington
Washington beat Stanford---keeps Stanford from being in for sure...we will have to see if they are good enough for the NCAA.

            Yesterday's bad things:
Iowa St. lost to TT---allowed TT to stay ahead of UNI in the RPI
Bucknell beat Holy Cross---HC is on the bubble with 25 wins and a 66 RPI
Iowa beat Mich. St.---Iowa's bubble would have been busted...but now they're probably in
NC State beat Wake---NC State is now back in the "bubble" picture
Ohio beat Miami (OH)---Miami (OH) stays on the bubble instead of winning the MAC...however, they are behind us now in the RPI with only 19 wins and 10 losses
GW beat Temple---GW still in the bubble picture
Buffalo beat W.Mich---Buffalo stays on the bubble picture, but we want them to win it all now.

            Now here's the PTTB Breakdown:
            31 Automatic bids
            34 At-Large bids
40 teams as locks-->13 conferences represented (13 automatic bids taken from those conferences)= 27 lock at-larges
            Leaves 7 at-large bubble spots
12 Bubble teams going for those 7 spots
            Bubble Teams:
            Notre Dame---games over
            NC State---plays in semis today
            Stanford---games over
            DePaul---games over
            UAB---games over
            Northern Iowa---Ya Gotta Believe!
Miami (OH)---games over, still probaby on bubble
Buffalo---plays in finals today, win and they are in, lose and probably done
Holy Cross---games over, but still have 25 wins, RPI 66
George Washington---plays in final today---if lose, they are done
St. Joes---plays in final today---if lose, still a bubble team
Utah State---plays in final today---if lose, they are done

If Vermont wins today, it will open up another at-large bid
If Pacific wins today, it will open up another at-large bid (and probably two b/c Utah St. won't be able to get in)

We want Memphis to lose today at home...if they do, they don't use up the Conference USA NCAA bid....which actually takes an at-large bid away.

            Teams to root for today:
Vermont, Pacific, Louisville, Iowa, St. Joes, Buffalo, and Duke.
