If UNI wins the regular season title and makes the semi-finals of the MVC tourney then UNI will get in, even with 3 more losses.

If they win the regular season by 2 games or more, and make at least the quarter-finals then they'll get in.

are you the dude with the HOMER license plate?

the facts are this: warner had 5 mediocre/bad seasons and UNI is going to go through this entire year without beating an NCAA tourney team. wake up.

Unfortunately, winning the regular season title means little to anyone but us. What matters is getting the automatic bid, or having a high RPI. While the conference RIP is respectable, our team RPI does us no favors.

That is like saying Tom Brady had a bad year this year...Kurt was hurt in 2 of them, and played for a very very bad Giants team (39 sacks in 10 games). The other years he was viewed as an aging QB who would be a good mentor to the younger QB...never really given a shot. I agree that his career was not at 100% throttle, but I also don't think it can be looked at as "Kurt simply sucked for a few years".

Wrong again. Since UNI has beat every team in the Valley, UNI either will be in the NCAA tourney or UNI will have BEAT a NCAA tourney team!

            That's circular logic.

if that is your argument for an at-large berth, we better win out in St. Louis.

we are talking about the hall of fame here...the voters dont care what the circumstances were...they just know he disappeared for half of a decade.

FWIW, i think he's in already, although it will take a few years of voting.

                Re: Andy Katz

                Formula for an at-large berth:
                * At least 15 MVC wins
                * Win Bracket Buster
                * Reach finals of MVC tournament
If these three are accomplished, UNI will be in the NCAA tournament.

If they win 15 games, Bracket Buster and reach semis of league tournament, it will be a long, long week of waiting. They'll be on the bubble.

It works for BcS conferences. Especially the teams that finish sub-.500 in their conferences.

I would add a 5th. I think the Valley needs to win at least 7 of their Bracket Buster games. A good showing in BB will strengthen the cause and with most of our better teams going on the road (us, Illinois State, Bradley), we could raise the whole Valley RPI and might even move up a slot to 7th.

If UNI wins the regular season, they are automatically in the quarter finals of the Valley tournament. I think we're going to have to win the regular season by 2 games or more, and make the finals, and then not get blown out in the finals. And to be honest, I'm not sure that will be enough.

                      Re: Andy Katz

Currently, the MVC is the 9th best RPI league per KenPom.Com and RealTimeRPI.Com

I'm having a hard time finding the RPI's from previous years, as I can only find KenPom's rankings, not RPI. RealTimeRPI.com shows previous conference ranks, but when you click on the teams, it goes to the current season's RPI ranking/schedule.

I would feel alot better about making the NCAA Tourney, but I remember last year's Illinois State team that had 25 wins and a 37 RPI got left out, and they were in the 8th rated RPI conference.

Of course they neither won the regular season or tournament title...but I get your point and agree for the most part.

                          Correct...

And since the RPI seems to be increasingly used to rule out 'non-BCS' schools, or otherwise unreliable (or considered) by the NCAA Selection Committee, it makes me even more cautious.

Also, since tonight's games have been added to KenPom's site, the MVC is now down to 10th.
