Goals and Expectations for the 2005-06 Season

    What are yours?

25 wins? MVC Conference Championship? MVC Tourney Championship? Wear white uniforms in the NCAA tourney? A healthy team (no significant injuries)? Winning the Las Vegas Tournament? Cracking the Top 25? Averaging 5,000+ at basketball games? Winning the mythical in-state championship?

This is a list of potential goals...which are the top 3 in your mind (you can add others to the list if you wish)?
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

I think Panther fans should have their sights set on ending SIU's streak of regular season MVC titles. You guys have the goods to do it. I think SIU and SMS/MSU (is the name change official?) will challenge, but I see it as a two-horse race between UNI and Creighton.

I really don't like 'fan expectations' for a team. I think they are dangerous because I don't think we (as fans) are realistic all of the time (imagine that!). I think UNI really has a chance to be very good. What will that mean? I don't know. I'd like to think UNI could win 20 + games for the third straight year. Hopefully that will give them a chance to finish first or second in the Valley. I would like to see them win a game or two in St. Louis for sure this season. It's more fun when the puple and gold are playing more than one game. Then, if we are lucky enough to get another bid to the NCAA's...I'd love to win a game or two. It would be a great way for Benny, Little and Crawford to end their Panther careers.

I think they all understand that each game is essential this season. Every game counts. If they play with that sense of urgency all season long...they will do well.

              Panthers to the Bone,

That looks like a good, and attainable list of goals.

I think a regular season MVC Title, and an NCAA win would really be that next step forward for the Panther program, which has taken huge steps in a very short time, and has done it the right way. Pretty tough to beat Coach Mac, he's obviously one of the best in the business and the Panthers couldn't be blessed with a better coaching staff.

Wins over the in-state schools would also help out the Panthers a lot in terms of their NCAA resume and attracting the attention of a growing fanbase within the state. When you beat the Hawkeyes and the Cyclones, people take notice really fast.
