If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

Thats a good list. Some good programs listed there with UNI. Nice to get the mention.

Odd that he used the term BCS, but he also left off Memphis.

He has a Memphis player on his first team. I don't know much about Memphis. Maybe he thinks they are not as good as any of the 10 teams listed? They are getting no votes in the AP poll and just 3 points in the coaches.

Well, the cheating coach that built them up is now gone.

Exactly. He has Tulsa listed in the top 10, he thinks that Memphis will have a down year without Calipari and Tulsa will take the title. In my opinion, if Memphis has a down year this year and the next and their new coach doesn't live up to expectations, they will just about fall off the map and go back to being a normal Conf-USA mid-major like the rest of the league.

lol....a couple points made by a kansas fan on the talk back for that article....
I am from Wichita, and am a Kansas fan, but I am aware of Wichita State and follow them to some extent. It is very hard to follow them, because they play in such an abismal league and quite boring if you ask anyone. If these mid-majors were so good they should be winning thier conference by landslides every year. Memphis was one of those who ran the table, and Gonzaga maybe up there

I hate how these teams get a free pass when they lose, but if the beat a Major school, the major school never hears the end of it. Why is that? It is like those decades of losing for those mid majors gets erased for beating a major school once.

Anyway, enjoy this upcoming season, and mid major fans dont bother posting trash talking.....because I wont be answering....Not worth it.

Re: Small Schools ranked by Gary Parrish

Thats funny because its actually quite the opposite. Major schools get a lot of "free passes" they can lose quite a few games and still get into the tournament. Mid-majors have to be much closer to perfect to get an at large berth.

Re: Small Schools ranked by Gary Parrish

What I like is UNI is ranked no. 7 without a player on the first, second or third team lists. Shows how strong they are as a team.

Also, in no preseason review have I read anything about Big E attending Pete Newell's Big Man camp. If nobody is expecting him to have improved over the offseason, it could catch some big name teams off guard early in the season (say...at the Paradise Jam?).
