Siena is on ESPN right now playing Northeastern part of the 24 hour marathon. They are down 26-20 at the half, as they have struggled a bit.

Doug Gottleib mentioned UNI as one of the mid-majors to watch during the halftime show.

This has probably been discussed before, but is anyone else annoyed with how the term "Mid-Major" is used? I'm not a big fan of the term in the first place, but I don't consider all the other conferences Mid Majors. If your conference's teams wouldn't sniff the NCAA tournament without the auto bid, you are not a mid major. You are a minor conference.

Where's Dayton in that poll? I believe they're ranked and considered a mid-major, correct? They took down Creighton 90-80 over the weekend.

Dayton is part of the A-10 and they as a conference refuse to acknowledge any kind of "mid-major" label. So you will not see any of their teams ranked in this poll.

I agree with JD though, if this is going to be a true poll for the conferences right behind the BcS 6, they should only include those conferences with chances of multiple bids. The one-bid (and 13+ seed) leagues are minor.

The A-10 is a mid-major league. They can call themselves FOTY's Speedo but that won't make it so.

Siena pulled it out, but looked unimpressive in doing so. I don't know much about Northeastern, but Siena looked beatable on their home court today.

                    Things that make you go

Kinda wierd not to see SIU in the top 25 of Mid-Majors. Probably a pretty accurate rating, just outside of the norm.

I thought the same thing about SIU's absence.

Northeastern was pretty decent last year IIRC.

Northeastern had 19 wins last year including victories over VCU and George Mason. They were a good team. During the broadcast they said Siena started off sluggishly last year too. And they did lose to Wichita early in the year when Wichita was not very good either.

They are very beatable, but we will have to play well against Siena.

On another note UNI was mentioned more than a couple times while some other "Mid-Major" teams were playing. Saying we are a team to watch out for, but that scares me because we didn't live up to the hype the last time people said that...

Halftime during the Hawaii game they said some nice things about UNI and talked about our "all name" team.
