  • Non-Conference Opponents

I was looking at our non-conference opponents to see how they are fairing. ISU is playing very good lately and has a good chance to become the signature win we've been looking for. BC will have several opportunities to churning out some good conference wins over the next 8 weeks. Sienna looks like they will run the table in the MAAC and Denver has a good chance to win the Sun Belt. Hopefully DePaul finds a way to right the ship and win a few games in the Big East.

    Denver 12-7 (5-3 Sun Belt)
    DePaul 7-10 (0-5 Big East)
    ECU 6-12 (0-4 C-USA)
    BC 10-8 (1-3 ACC)
    NIU 7-8 (3-0 MAC)
    ISU 12-5 (1-1 Big-12)
    Iowa 7-11 (1-4 Big-10)
Siena 14-4 (7-0 MAAC) *haven't lost since playing UNI
    UND 3-15 (0-0 Great West)
    Wyoming 8-10 (1-3 MWC)

Man, how bad is the MAC that NIU is 3-0?...

It would be nice if Iowa State could really get on a nice run.

Wyoming is also playing much better lately. They nearly beat New Mexico yesterday. I think they probably finish top 4 in the MWC.

        I agree.

Since UNI can't play Butler in BB I would like to see Siena play Butler and beat them to make the Siena win that much better. Plus Siena's RPI is around 33 and if they can run the table in the MAAC and beat Butler they could end up top 25 and that could be UNI's signature win. It would also be good if ISU can take out Kansas in one of their games.

If ISU is our signature win we are in trouble.

Depaul's really good center is injured...again. His injury is what derailed this team after the Paradise Jam. I think it is unlikely they pick up many wins this year, if any.

If things stay as they are, I think it would be pretty easy for a critic to pick apart our schedule. We really need ISU and BC to pick things up.

I think it's pretty obvious that Sienna is our signature win (RPI of 33) as of right now. The Ia. State win is starting to look better, they are getting close to top 100 (108). Drake has sure been doing good at reducing the number of rpi top 100 teams in the Valley.
"I think they're very good," Farley said of the preseason top 25 Hawkeyes. "But so are we."

CBS lists wins in order of RPI:

No question Drake is hurting the MVC right now.
"Lot of people talked about Ohio State or Georgetown or Michigan State or whoever, [or] Maryland in our bracket. When the brackets came out, the first team I looked at was Northern Iowa," Kansas Coach Bill Self.

Does it make more sense to complain about people not living up to their name like "Silent Earl" Sorry Ghost just could not resist.

Absolutely true. They are beating their chests over winning in Lincoln. That was nothing more than the 8/9 team in the Big 12 beating the 11/12 team.

Maybe they can win in Lubbock. Then look out sweet 16 here they come. HUGE wins of the 10-12 teams in the league,

Hell I can remember when they actually won big games, of course that was way before Mac totalled that program. Hopefully, since they can't afford to fire him, he can stay for the next five years, and Iowa State will never again have a good program.

A lot of the old ISU fans that I am around compare him to Lynn Nance, that is good for UNI.

It makes more sense to complain about the supposedly good teams that are losing these games to Drake and Creighton.
                        Actually you are correct.

It wasn't Creighton's fault that Wichita State butchered that last 15 seconds.

It wasn't Drake's fault that Illinois State didn't bother to show up.

We are not responsible for other teams. It may very well hurt our seeding, but all we can do is continue to win, the rest takes care of itself.

Actually, anytime you win on the road in the Big 12 is a big deal. The main reason it was so big was because it broke our conference road losing streak of like 2-3 years. Not to mention it was the first time EVER we beat Nebraska in Lincoln in Football, Basketball, and Volleyball in the same year.

The rest of your post I agree with, unfortunately.

                            +1

It would be nice if there were 2-4 top teams in the Valley so there is more than 1 NCAA bid but you can't worry about other teams. If a team like ISU can't beat the likes of Drake, maybe they don't have any business in the tournament.

Historically, it was a huge win for Iowa State. But man, you read Cyclone Fanatic, and all of the "Mac is such a nice guy, I hope we give him more time" stuff should piss any real Iowa State fan off to no end.

You realize that they will most likely lose to Kansas, Kansas State, and possibly Missouri AT HOME. They already lost at home to UT, but they played "well."

I looked at their schedule, they go to Baylor, Oklahoma, and A & M. Where do you make up those home losses with that. They can beat Colorado, but they hardly ever win out there.

The funny part is that even if they somehow miraculously win some games they aren't supposed to, they lose Brackins, and probably Gilstrap, maybe even Staiger next year.....Back to 11th place.

I remember talking to Iowa State fans four years ago, they were so happy. They were in such a hurry to get rid of Morgan, what do you think they would have said that after five years of McDermott, they would be looking at one possible post season bid. Add in all of the players leaving the program.......Wow, Mac has to be laughing sitting there counting his money.
