Re: "UNI men: Team of the decade"
Very nice article.
Frankly didn't think the Register had it in them.
Like the quotes from Hartzell. He deserves a lot of credit for UNI's success in Fball and Bball the last 10 years.
Think back to that day he had Farley & McDermott get out of that limo. How smart does Hartzell look now? Sure Mac left but that led to Jake and a further escalation of the program.
Between those hires and the McLeod Center...what a great legacy to leave behind.Winning is more fun than losing.

wow, great article with some actual insight. Nicely done.
Someone should take this quote over to valleytalk, and watch hilarity ensue.
“One might ask, ‘How strong is the Northern Iowa brand?’ ’’ Valley commissioner Doug Elgin said when discussing the Panthers’ postseason resume. “That’s a program over the last six years that has as many NCAA Tournament appearances in our league as any other. That borders on being a dynasty when you put this year in with it.”UNI FIGHT

Sean Keeler is also a great Des Moines Register sports writer, he wrote a great article after we beat Siena how NCAA should take noticeOriginally posted by jnutt View PostAndrew Logue always does a damn nice job. And he does it again. Glad we have a paper in Des Moines that is capable of articles like this. Hell, glad we still have a PAPER to read.(217): Just watched a UNI fan at the bar lick the tears off of a KU fans face.. See what march madness does to people

I think Hartzell deserves a lot of credit as well for bringing in some quality people. I have to admit, Dannen is really growing on me. I don't see him being the fun, social, allumni hand shaking guy that Hartzell was but damn, boy sure can get people to open their pocket books.Illinois State Fan at a St. Louis White Castle 3:45AM Saturday March 6th:
"White Castle?" "more like Black Castle..."

Re: "UNI men: Team of the decade"
I knew Iowa and Iowa St aren't having a good year by any means, but this was surprising to me...
The Panthers, who now average 5,380 fans in the four-year-old McLeod Center, continue to make strides, posting a record of 7-1 against opponents in the RPI top 100.
The Hawkeyes and Cyclones are a combined 0-23.To avoid confusion - my username is baseball (Cy Young award) related, NOT for the Cyclones.

One can't totally forget the long-term history in the league, but the case can be made (and effectively) that UNI is has been the Valley's premier program fro the past 5 or 6 years.

I personally find Dannen to be more friendly than Hartzell. But that's just my opinion.Selling a lot of old UNI stuff here: http://www.panthernation.com/showthread.php?t=65762
