  • Disproving Theories

We are, according to the national media, not a team that blows other teams out of the water...

    n Boston College 81-69
    Iowa 67-50
    Siena (RPI Top 50) 82-65
    Wyoming 72-54
    Evansville 65-46
    AT Southern Illinois 61-49
    AT Illinois State 59-44
    Indiana State 62-40
    Drake 67-51
    Creighton 70-52

Preconceived notions are a powerful thing.

    That is all.

    Re: Disproving Theories

Of course, talking heads would also tell you that none of those teams are any good.

And, until we win a game in the tourney they'll tell you that UNI isn't a team that can make any noise in March.

    It is frustrating.

But that's only, like, 10 games out of 26. What about the rest? Oh you can win close games, too? Must not be very good. Yep, that's the ticket.

yup, they like to spin the "oh you win close games" as we aren't good enough to blow teams out and let them hang around rather than we must be good as we are winning close games...

          Re: Disproving Theories

Great defensive teams don't "blow out" their opponents. It's a simple factor of limited possessions.

Going by the talking head theorists, no NBA teams would be great. Most NBA scores are less than 10 point differentials.

It is what it is and Northern Iowa doesn't need to define success based on national media perceptions.

            Re: Disproving Theories

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: It's FAR more humiliating to lose a game by 15 and only score 50 points than it is to lose by 25 and score over 60. I know if UNI were ever held to under 50 points (and still didn't win, because we all know this team COULD win a 49-46 game) I would consider it a poor performance offensively. Besides, nothing frustrates a team more quickly than watching all your shots clang off the rim.
