I hate how they play in these domes...they look so empty and the atmosphere just seems dead

Re: Domes
There's also so many open seats...here's a stretch but maybe the NCAA is trying to give the advantage to the big schools since the mid majors are usually team that are good shooters and hot by making it this far...maybe they think it will throw them off a little bit even though both teams have to play...what's everybody think

Re: Domes
I don't think they play in Domes to give the schools a big advantage, althought they do seem to in every other aspect. My guess is they are trying to find places in big cities that can bring hold the most fans. Not many local teams playing in each region.
Seeing the empty seats makes me think you should find some decent ones in St. Louis.
However, I think Michigan State and Ohio State travel well in most cases. UNI will too since it's close and we are in the Sweet 16 for the first time. I'm assumining Tennessee might not travel too well. If KU was playing they would travel great too, so I thik the St. Louis region has the potential for the largest crowds,

Re: Domes
Nice! KWWL reported on their special earlier this evening that UNI tripled their initial allotment of 1500. When you combine that with the number of tickets purchased through other channels, I expect it will really be a home crowd for the Panthers on their new home court. How cool is that?Originally posted by achrist70 View PostAccording to ticket sales, UNI had the most, Tennessee sold their allotment, and OSU, and MSU sent back tickets that UNI picked up.

Re: Domes
This was the comment that coaches used to make when they played in the UNI-Dome, and that the shooting background or lack of it was hard on their teams. I can't remember which Southern Illinois coach it was but he said that the UNI-Dome was the nicest football stadium he ever played a basketball game.Originally posted by P-and-g-for-me-plz View PostI hate how they play in these domes...they look so empty and the atmosphere just seems dead"Lot of people talked about Ohio State or Georgetown or Michigan State or whoever, [or] Maryland in our bracket. When the brackets came out, the first team I looked at was Northern Iowa," Kansas Coach Bill Self.

Re: Domes
No, its all about money. With games being played in huge domes, they can sell pretty much as many tickets as they want. When you can sell tickets for the same price as a basketball arena, you are making a lot more money selling 40,000 tickets, than 20,000.Originally posted by P-and-g-for-me-plz View PostThere's also so many open seats...here's a stretch but maybe the NCAA is trying to give the advantage to the big schools since the mid majors are usually team that are good shooters and hot by making it this far...maybe they think it will throw them off a little bit even though both teams have to play...what's everybody think

Re: Domes
I’m not sure this is spot on …. Yes they can sell more tickets, but if that is the main point why is the Salt lake regional in an NBA arena and not a dome? I know there is no dome in Salt Lake, but if 40,000 is the goal than don’t give them the bid. I think news breaker hit it on the head .......Originally posted by cydave View PostNo, its all about money. ........ that most of these regional sites are auditions for hosting a Final Four; Salt Lake City and Syracuse being exceptions this year as they don't have the capacity to do so. Syracuse does, but the town is not a final four city.Originally posted by Newsbreaker View PostRemember as well that these Regionals serve as test runs for both the cities, hosts, and NCAA for future Final Fours.
I really wish they would have the regional’s in “Basketball Arenas” (Syracuse gets a pass due to the Carrier Dome being the Orange’s home arena). I think most NBA/NHL arena’s would have plenty of seating to host a Regional.
Salt Lake – Energy Solutions Arena – 19,911
St Louis – Scottrade Center – 22,612
Syracuse – Carrier Dome – 34,616*
Houston – Toyota Center – 18,300Last edited by porkchop; 03-26-2010, 09:22 AM.
