  • How Cool is This - 29,000 show up for Butler's Final Four Practice!

Over 29,000 people showed up for Butler's Final Four shootaround. That is pretty cool! I really wanted to get to the Panther's open practice before their Sweet 16 game but could not swing it.

Watched it on CBS college sports and it was loud and packed.
Coach Whisenhunt 1/18/09. "There was never any complaints about not being named the starter, all he wanted was an opportunity and he took advantage of it. Kurt is probably one of the greatest individuals you'll ever meet. Kurt worked hard on a lot of things that a lot of times older quarterbacks aren't willing to do. That's a credit to his humility and his competitive drive, and the reason that we are here today in great part is what Kurt Warner has done for us."

I didn't really care who won the (first) game tonight:
on the one hand, since MSU was the team that knocked UNI out, I wouldn't mind seeing them advance,
but on the other hand, it's great to see a fellow "mid-major" knock off another one of the "big guys".

Anyhow, congrats to the Butler Bulldogs. I hope they thrash WV or Duke on Monday night.

On a sidenote, does Butler's coach need to be fired, since they "took bad shots" and only made 20-something percent in the second half?

I wouldn't even let him coach on Monday night.

That was a great win for mid-majors, although it was an ugly game to watch. If Mack can play Monday Night and if Howard can stay out of foul trouble, although with Howard that's a big if, this Tournament could become Digger Phelps worst nightmare.
"Lot of people talked about Ohio State or Georgetown or Michigan State or whoever, [or] Maryland in our bracket. When the brackets came out, the first team I looked at was Northern Iowa," Kansas Coach Bill Self.

Duke vs Butler for the National Championship. Crazy.

Two tiny private schools with a bunch of white guys playing for the national title. It could have just as easily been us.

                This.

You just can't overstate how huge it is that a mid-major is playing for the title. A win on Monday could really turn perceptions in a very major way.

Too bad we had one of our worst shooting nights in the sweet sixteen.

                    Sorry, I couldn't resist.

It was the team's 11th worst shooting game of the season (there were 10 other games in which they had a lower FG%).

Though as far as 3 pt shooting, it was part of a 3-way tie for 6th worst.

Not a good shooting night by any means, but not the "worst".
(I was bored and decided to look up the stats)

When we talk about shooting percentages the other thing I noticed awhile back was that the team in general had lower shooting percentages from the field than it did last season. 08-09 is on the left. The big improvement this season with some of them came from the FT line but KA, Kerwin, and Lucas had lower FT percentages when compared to 08-09.

FG 3 PT FG 3 PT

                        KA 41.3 35.9 38.1 34.8
                        Ali 40.6 37.9 38.2 37.2
                        Johnny 37.9 32.9 33.1 27.5
                        Jordan 58.5 13.3 52.9 25.0
                        Adam 48.8 31.1 47.3 36.2
                        Kerwin 43.0 41.9 38.0 34.4
                        Lucas 61.5 33.3 55.1 50.0

Ban will be working with the returning starters this summer.

I know Butler is referred to as a Mid-Major....but you have to admit...being in Indianapolis definitely has benefits that most mid-major schools do not have.

In what way? Is it the fact that the NCAA is there and there is some sort of funny business? Is it just that they get to be 'home' for the Final Four? I'm not following.

Otherwise, I don't see any more advantage than Xavier in Cincinnati, Creighton in Omaha, Temple in Philly, Loyola in Chicago, Hofstra in NYC, Northeastern in Boston, etc, etc.

                            IUPUI is in Indy, too.

                              Yep, poor coaching.

That, and the fact that he gets ID'd everytime he walks into a bar .. guy should be let go.
