  • I Am Ready For Basketball

Is it just me, or is there anyone else who wants to roll up the turf and get the hardwood on the Dome floor? UNI is slowly becoming a basketball school, and that is fine with me!

I have my season ticket form filled out and I am preaching to everyone I know to get there @$$e$ in the seats this winter to see Coach Mac go back2back2back.

    AMEN!

I'm pumped for basketball, too, but I'm nowhere near ready to roll up the turf. The best part of the year is when both sports are going on at the same time. Glad you've joined our message board bonner97, and I'm also very excited that you're trying to get other people in the stands for basketball. But lets not look past football just yet -- the boys aren't nearly done. Lets get excited for BOTH sports going on at the same time!! Lots to cheer about if you're a Panther right now!
"...the Northern Iowa men's basketball team reached the ultimate highs before hitting a devastating low. Unexpected success, followed by unimaginable failure. And they owned it -- all of it -- for the world to see. Like men. Like leaders. Like champions -- in a way no tournament bracket could ever define."

I simply must agree with him... the sooner opening tipoff arrives, the better.

We shall see after this weekend in football. If we lose, no shot at playoffs. Win and there is still a chance.

                Preseason

Okay we're getting all the hype. But as Iowa basketball fans can tell you that doesn't mean anything. We need to do it on the court. Let's hope that high expectations don't lead to a let down. I know Mac wants the regular season title. It's going to be an exciting year.
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

For me, it dosen't really seem like basketball season until January starts. I get a little taste in early December for a few days when there is little football and the in-state basketball games are going on. But January is when coference play starts and the action really heats up!

Funny, I used to not be a big basketball fan until this board started and Panther fans finally had a VOICE!!!

The program's recent success helps a little too...

Yes the success has helped, but this board has really helped me to understand the game and our team a lot better.

Basketball school huh? Funny how only three years ago one of the players parents told me he was at Scheels before the game and overheard a conversation of several UNI students. Seemed they could'nt figure out what to do that night and he suggested they go to the basketball game. They simply laughed and said the basketball team sucked and was a waste of time. He informed they UNI had a young team and soon would be a NCAA team. Who knew he could see the future! Kudos to the athletic department, Mac, the players, and those fans who stuck by panther basketball during some bleak years (read decade).

I'm excited about Basketball too.....but lets not forget UNI's Wrestling and Football Tradition.....
"We're not an ordinary school," said Fort. "We have tradition. We have a good team year after year. We rebuild, and it doesn't matter who we have coming back."

                            I believe UNI is a Football/Basketball/Wrestling/Track/Volleyball/Rugby school.

And probably a few other sports I left out, but those are the ones I could think of that we really excel at.

I am also a huge basketball fan, but let's not wish our lives away. Let's enjoy it all, the football team can still make the playoffs and we can help this weekend. Besides I don't think there's much tailgating for the basketball games. See you Saturday.
