Its amazing to me how nearly every school in the country (and certainly all schools that play at a level as high as UNI) can get some sort of pep band at all of their games, yet its like pulling teeth and/or some sort of supposed impossibility to do the same at UNI. We can barely get them to show up for HALF of our games....

Re: Will the band be at the game on Sunday?
I understand classes haven't started back up for the spring but c'mon. It's the Saturday before hand. If you're making the commitment to show up to all home games for a semester, you can come back to campus 2 days early to support your school and play. I'd bet most of them that aren't freshmen are already back on campus. Let's also make sure we aren't shooting the messenger. The students don't control this, it's the directors who don't organize this is an efficient and logical matter.

Why not at least have an alumni band play? They had a basketball reunion today. Why not have a band reunion and see how many want to come back? I bet many still live relatively close. Or a community (Waterloo / CF) band play? Give them free tix and ask them to play. Line it up now so they can start learning the fight song for next Christmas break.

Re: Will the band be at the game on Sunday?
what is tough to understand is how this is even an option. you want to sign up for pep band? great!
here are some of the perks:
guaranteed seating close to action for 17 mens basketball games, 5 volleyball games, and 8 womens basketball games.
potential trips (expenses paid) to NCAA tournament or conference tournament games.
requirements:
must be able to attend all events, even over winter break. any missed event will result in a warning, a second missed event will result in your removal from the pep band.
This seems so simple, I can't imagine a conversation between Jake Koch and coach Jake that goes something like this, "hey coach, i will be heading back to Oshnananaheenajah for winter break, seeings how we don't have class I figured thats okay."
I remember missing Thanksgiving while playing football, I wasn't on scholarship (which will be many of your arguments) I wonder how that would have gone? "hey coach Farley, grandma is frying a turkey again this year, I can't miss it." "see you on Monday!"Illinois State Fan at a St. Louis White Castle 3:45AM Saturday March 6th:

Have high schools from all over the area send in tapes. Select the best to play and you would alsotheir parents to buy tickets to come watch.
Even some of the smaller towns have nice pep bands.

Re: Will the band be at the game on Sunday?
Like I said earlier, it's certainly not the students we should be directing this at. We could easily have this squared away if the department took the time to work it out. Might take a growing-pains period but the issue could be solved in a year or two because many of the students in marching and pep band are bigger supporters of Panther athletics than a good portion of the student body. It's really sad how many students at UNI are ridiculed for supporting their school first.
Now, despite having contributed to the negative side of this conversation, I really feel like we should concern ourselves with other things. We can talk about this on the internet all we want but someone needs to direct their feelings to the right personnelLast edited by panther-state; 01-13-2013, 01:24 PM.

my god thats freaking genious, I am sure the "powers that be" will have a reason why you can't do that (mostly because it wasn't their ideaOriginally posted by run&blade View PostHave high schools from all over the area send in tapes. , throw in the fact that we charge their parents, cousins, and even their 6 year old brother $20 for a ticket we could probably even give them a $6 tee shirt that has a uni logo on it with "pep band" under it.
Not only would this solve your problem of not having a band at each game, it also puts buts in the seats, and creates great on campus experiences for potential students.
Of course, our actual pep band would feel underminded so they baulk at it.Illinois State Fan at a St. Louis White Castle 3:45AM Saturday March 6th:
