  • UNI BB at Wells Fargo Arena - Ticket Update

I have looked forward to this game since the day it was announced. Trying to get tickets has been very frustrating. I've talked to the UNI ticket office, the Drake ticket office, and checked on tickets numerous times online with the WFA/Dahls ticket site. No one seemed to know exactly what the deal with tickets was or they weren't saying. From the day they went on sale there were no decent seats available. I'm sorry, but I would barely be able to see the game from the seats they claimed were all that was left, directly behind the basket and about a full court length away from the end of the court.

I have suspected from the beginning they had all the good seats reserved for the DU ticket office and UNI ticket office. That's fine, but why not just be honest about what is going on. This game was billed by UNI as a chance for the fans in dsm to see a game without traveling 2 hours. Unfortunately fans in dsm had no chance to get tickets. I have this huge fear that the arena is going to be empty for the UNI game and they are going to claim there isn't any interest from UNI fans, when in fact they set it up so UNI fans couldn't get tickets!

I've called the Drake ticket office several times and they are only selling tickets to their season ticket holders. The first time I called UNI ticket office they said the same thing. JC tipped my off a few weeks ago that season ticket holders had up to a certain date to order tickets then they would go to anyone. I called back the next week after that but was still told no tickets unless you were a season ticket holder. I tried Drake again every week and still always the same.

Finally the week before last when I called UNI I got someone who said I could buy tickets, but they didn't have any idea the location of the seats. I felt certain they would be much better than what was available to the general public worst case scenario. I didn't order my tickets then because I had put out an email to a bunch of UNI alum friends trying to stir up interest in the game and see if people wanted to go together. Finally last Friday I got word back from a couple people they were interested, and I needed 6 tickets. The game is only 2 weeks away now so I decided to cut off the wait and order the tickets.

I called UNI friday and was again told only season ticket holders. Aaaagghh! As the vein on my neck threatened to pop I politely explained I had been told the week before anyone could now buy tickets. She put me on hold and went to check. Eureka! Yes that was right I could get tickets. I then asked if she knew if they had reserved most of the arena for Drake and UNI ticket offices to sell because it seemed that way to me. She didn't know anything about that, so I asked if there was a certain date they had to turn their orders in after which it would open up seats to the general public. She put me on hold and went to check. Yes, they had to turn in their ticket order that day!

Sure enough today the tickets available through the online site are better than any that have been available up to this point. They aren't great though which tells me a lot of tickets were sold thru Drake and UNI. Also today I get an email from my buddy who works at WF and they were just offered tickets today. WF employees get an advanced opportunity at tickets to all events as part of the naming rights to the arena.

Last week when I checked online the tickets available were in the 200 sections which they initially were not going to open up for these games, so interest from the general public has apparently been better than they anticipated.

Bottom line of this long winded post is if you've wanted to go and don't yet have tickets the best ones they've offered are available right now thru the online ticket site or Dahls stores.

Gonzo - I feel your pain regarding the UNI ticket office. Too much to explain in a public post but there are problems in that office. I don't understand why they can be so difficult to deal with. Even as season ticket holders, we have routinely had difficulties with seating. Don't even get me started with the athletic club leaving sideline passes at the ticket office...

The GOOD news: The UNI Pep Band is going, so you can count on the band.

The bad news : I can't go as I have a rehearsal I need to attend. ON A SUNDAY. I'm declaring Shenanigans on that one.

95 I don't really blame the UNI ticket office for this fiasco, I think it is the Wells Fargo Arena that is behind it. I think it was wrong to sell this as a double header in the first place. Then they hold almost all the seats for Drake fans, so if a large number of them leave after the Drake game it will be an empty arena for UNI. Then they play a lot of games with the tickets which they have established themselves as doing in the short time they have been open. They are not endearing themselves to the people of dsm so far I can tell you that. I think most Iowans prefer a straightforward honest approach to business rather than a bunch of games.

I am assuming that this meant that the ticket office goofed up the sideline passes and that you weren't necessarily pointing a finger at the Athletic Club staff.

I've had nothing but positive experiences with the Athletic Club as Kelly, Megan and the entire AC staff have always been very accommodating and fun to work with. They do so much for UNI Athletics that if people only knew the amount of work they do behind the scenes, they would appreciate the AC and the benefits received so much more.

Besides, they throw together some kick a$$ bus trips!!

It wasn't the athletic club... My wife and I are active in raising money for the club and the people there are great to work with...

Dr. Tom Davis was on the radio in Des Moines (1460 Deace in the Afternoon) this afternoon. He said that "they" (meaning Drake) are trying to get the ticket count up high enough so that they can open up the upper level. He said they are close to achieving that and hoping to do so for Sunday. My suggestion would be to get tickets through Drake if you are still getting the run around from UNI.
