  • CBS Previews the MVC, picks panthers 1st

I like all of Doyles comments except his pick for POY, although he probably is just stating what voters will do, because everyone loves the catholic kids. Anyway its great to see some respect for the MVC and especially the Panthers

Further commentary by Doyle on the MVC

although I hate the term, King of Mid-Majors is not a bad title, especially from the Bball writer of the NCAA station CBS

That's a well written article about the league. It's great to see the recognition and he's almost saying that we've busted the Mid Major label. A few more years of 3 bids and some additional success in the NCAA tourney and the label will be gone.
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

He's just picking someone different then everyone else did and who are you going to choose if you don't take Benny?

The ironic thing is that Stout isn't listed as a top player for us. He's on task to break the all-time block record at UNI in his Junior year. That's amazing. And with his added bulk he should be able to bang down below a lot more effectively this year and when needed step out and drain a 18 footer.

If junior PG Brooks McKowen can handle 30 minutes per game, the Panthers are an NCAA lock.
...then we are a lock. It has been interesting to watch Brooks transition from being on the court every minute of the game and being the first option everytime down the court in high school to sharing time and being the 4th or 5th offensive option in Mac's system. If he gets 30 minutes a game this year his game will improve as he will settle down and relax. I don't think Brooks gets enough credit for what he has done for this team and it drives me crazy when people who don't understand the game of basketball look at ppg and say he has been a disappointment. He stepped in as a true freshmen, accepted his role and has done a great job with it and the Panthers have won 21 games the last two years and it will be an upset if his class doesn't make the dance all 4 of his years, no Panther player to date can make this same claim. Obviously I am not saying he is the sole reason for success. He is surrounded by tremendous talent, but his acceptance of his role and providing what is needed to allow the talent around him to shine is a big part of what the Panthers have done the last two years. Brooks will improve this year just don't necessarily look for this improvement under ppg on the stat sheet.
...by Odeon. It's illegal in nine countries. Yep, it's made with bits of real panther. So you know it's good."

            Brooks and 30 min.

All I can say is that several times over the past few years I've welcomed the sight of Brooks bringing the ball up court with a defender all over him.

            Enough said.
