  • Mr. Basketball

I was checking out the list of former Mr. Basketball winners, and was wondering if anyone could clue me in on what happened to a few of these guys. Never heard much from Clayton Vette, who won in 2007, or Josh van Es in 2005. Anyone in the mood for a research project?

Vette went to Iowa State for a year then transferred due to homesickness allegedly and then played at Winona State.

Vette had a cup of coffee at Iowa State and then transferred to a D2 or 3 school. I am thinking Winona State.

Van Es was not a DI talent.

Vette spent one semester at Iowa State before transferring to Winona State.

Vette spent one semester at Iowa State before transferring to Winona State and having a fairly pedestrian career.
vette is a good player at winona, which is a very strong program.

If it was homesickness, seems like UNI would have been his destination. And on the subject of former Mr. Basketballs, any word on what Brennan Cougill has been doing with himself lately?

I don't believe we had room for Vette at the time, if memory serves...

                    Re: Mr. Basketball

cougill has put together some solid work on a decent green bay team but he was also suspended for a few games recently. he looked pretty effective when ive seen him play and i still think that he would have been a decent stopgap for both iowa and UNI, especially in light of the oliver fiasco.

I think I heard that Cougill was suspended.

I didn't think D2s or D3s gave scholarships, so why would that have mattered? We sure could have used his size the last few years, especially 2 years ago when O Rear was injured. I would sure be interested to know how much we pursued him.

D2's give scholarships. Vette got a free education at Winona State.

                              D2's can offer full scholarships

D3's can get your cost of attendance to damn near zero if you are talented enough through a variety of grants.
