Not sure where to put this link, but it's a very good article on Coach Jake. So glad he is here, and enjoys it here.
To avoid confusion - my username is baseball (Cy Young award) related, NOT for the Cyclones.

Very interesting story. I wonder how many mid major schools have similarly successful football programs??? Any business person would tell you, resources get divided.

Fantastic article about a fantastic guy. I think we really do forget often how good we have it as UNI fans.Originally posted by CyCarp View PostNot sure where to put this link, but it's a very good article on Coach Jake. So glad he is here, and enjoys it here.
http://www.foxsports.com/college-bas...ght-fit-011215"...the Northern Iowa men's basketball team reached the ultimate highs before hitting a devastating low. Unexpected success, followed by unimaginable failure. And they owned it -- all of it -- for the world to see. Like men. Like leaders. Like champions -- in a way no tournament bracket could ever define."

Jake is the anti-Rick Pitino. I highly doubt any restaurant encounter stories will be popping up out of Cedar Falls anytime soon.

The anti-Pitino. That's great. And spot on.Originally posted by Trapped in California View PostJake is the anti-Rick Pitino. I highly doubt any restaurant encounter stories will be popping up out of Cedar Falls anytime soon.
Great article. Credit to the reporter for really getting it. And not turning it into a patronizing "isn't that cute" kinda thing.
I've heard people say Jake is just waiting for the right call. I never believed that. I think he knows what's out there in the college basketball "industry". The !#$^ you gotta put up with at a BCS school. The kinda personalities you gotta deal with on your own team. The media pressure. Crazy fans. Stress of keeping your job. Pressure on your family. Etc, etc.
He can build HIS program with HIS guys and UNI. And become a wealthy man doing it.
Ask Dana Altman what it's like coaching at a BCS school right now. Or Greg McDermott 5 years ago.Winning is more fun than losing.

Coach Jake is great yesterday I was sitting at a red light near the McLeod and a Red Ford Explorer pulls up next to me, I look over and it's Coach Jake, a little dumb founded I wave, and he waves back. There may be a time when he moves on, but it would not surprise me at all to see him retire in Cedar Falls, just that type of person.

Re: Coach Jake can become all time wins leader Saturday
Jake has been here for 14 years now and he's only really flirted with one job (A&M) and decided it would take ridiculous money. I'm to the point where I think he'll go the Bob McKillop and Rick Byrd route and coach here for another 15-20 years and then retire up north.
He can stay here, be himself, run the program he wants to run and still retire a very wealthy man.

I think it's all about his kids. He's not thinking about going anywhere until after his kids are out of the house. Thankfully for us they're pretty young. Heck, maybe they'll end up playing for UNI someday.......hopefully they never commit to playing for Greg McDermott!!!!!!Originally posted by BCPanther View PostJake has been here for 14 years now and he's only really flirted with one job (A&M) and decided it would take ridiculous money. So many things stick out in the article to me. I think just the fact that he still lives in the same house as he did when he came to CF as an assistant says a lot about the person he is. Also sharing part of his Sweet Sixteen bonus with the trainer, the academic advisor and the strength coach. Yes, we've had some rough, frustrating years recently, but there's nobody else I'd want at UNI. He's a hell of a coach and even better person. To avoid confusion - my username is baseball (Cy Young award) related, NOT for the Cyclones.
