    Somebody needs to Pop this Guy in the Nose

    It's 2:45 and I'm watching ESPNNEWS and Doug Gotlieb is talking about how Iowa shouldn't play UNI at home because it's not an upset, basically because they're playing a bunch of kids who wanted to go to Iowa and got rejected, and against a student base who wanted to get into to Iowa but had to "settle" for UNI. Now I don't know about you, but I've had absolutely zilch desire to ever apply to Iowa, not because I wouldn't get in, (I would have no problem just like any other UNI student) but because I didn't like the programs they offered and the way they set up classes. I didn't want to go to a university where you're treated like a number compared to a person. Somebody needs to kick this guy in the nuts. Or at least write a letter and demand an apology.

    Gottlieb is a Jim Rome wannabe. He cried last year about officials and calling out the integrity of Rick Hartzell during the Indiana game last season. For a guy that was kicked out of Notre Dame, and went to the wasteland known as Oklahoma State and playing for the cheater Sutton, he is the last person that needs to be calling on anybody's integrity. Stealing people's credit cards is not cool Doug!

      He's probably still PO'ed about the Rick Hartzell officiating deal last year. Haha!

      Probably a little bitter over having to take back his quotes on bashing the Big Ten.

        I just watched that tripe as well. Doug Gottlieb is a slime ball of the highest order. The arrogance that coarses through his veins would kill any normal man. I say an e-mail campaign ESPN is in order. It's one thing to talk about athletics... it's another thing ENTIRELY to take a cheap shot at a school's academics. What a f**khead.

            My letter to ESPN:

            I'm not sure if this is proper channel for registering such a grievance, but here goes anyway.

            Doug Gottlieb. Why? Is there a particular reason you have this foul-mouthed crook working for you as an "analyst?" My complain is in regards to the comments he just made on ESPNEWS regarding the University of Northern Iowa. To paraphrase, he stated that The University of Northern Iowa's basketball team is made up of five guys who couldn't get into Iowa. That part is ignorant, but not the part I reigster disugst with. He followed that by saying the STUDENTS THEMSELVES were attending UNI because they couldn't get into Iowa.

            Ignorance about a school's academic qualifications are not to be tolerated. The University of Northern Iowa not only has stricter standards of admittance than the University of Iowa (although that is highly irrelevant), the programs are different. I can assure as a citizen of Iowa, I never seriously considered Iowa because the program I was interested in was far stronger at UNI.

            But I digress. I don't need to explain this to you, I'm sure you are well aware of these types of things. My point is that Doug Gottlieb owes someone an apology for these offensive and ignorant remarks. Besides, he should talk... wasn't he kicked out of Notre Dame? Wasn't Oklahoma State his second choice?

                    I had class so I missed what Doug Gottleib had to say. All that I know is the guy is the biggest idiot on the face of the planet. He just doesn't have any respect for what UNI has accomplished the past few years. He has no information to back up what he says about UNI or anyone else for that matter. I know that he had some problems and if he did get kicked out of Notre Dame then he should just shut his mouth period. I've hated that guy since he went off about UNI in late Febuary about Hartzell and now this.....what a ding dong.

                      I don't know what email address ontheprowl used... but my friend told me about this story before I got on here and read it and he emailed ESPN at [email protected] If anyone else wants to email it there, please do. If someone knows a better address to email to, please post it. This guy is so ignorant...I can't believe his comments.

                            In some ways you are right Reed, I think it does cause his ever-expanding ego to grow, but it does have "marginal" effects.

                            Some may recall this from last year. Doug Gottlieb called FRESHMAN Brian Butch of Wisconsin the "Biggest Disapointment in the Big 10" (he also called future 3rd place finisher, and Elite 8 qualifier Wisconsin the most disappointing team in the B10). This was after about 4 B10 games, so about 1/2 the entire season where BB was putting up so-so numbers. Truthfully, I was disappointed in BB's productivity to that point too but I also wasn't proclaiming that to a national audience and I at least was smart enough to realize, "hey, this kid is only a freshman". Not every school can bring in 18 year olds that could go pro at any moment like Duke. There was a time where it was unheard of for a freshman to even touch the court. At any rate, this wasn't even the biggest BS to come from it.

                            If this piece of crap "butthead" had bothered to look a little deeper he would have realized that Butch had mononucleosis right up to the start of the season; which, anyone who has had this knows, phyiscally drains you for WEEKS. Beyond this, in his personal life, Brian's mom was battling breast cancer, which was taking an emotional toll on the young man.

                            As one could imagine, Badgernation was in an UPROAR over this moron's actions and a strongly worded email campaign quickly started up and the craphead was forced to apologize on national tv the next week. Personally, I felt Gottlieb should have been fired, but at least he was forced to admit something and be exposed for the disgusting human being that he is.

                            So what does all this mean??? A little email campaign could go a long way.

                            I agree though, don't go down to his level with the ND/Ok St comment. Express your concern and get others to do it too, but do it TASTEFULLY!!

                              Also, if anyone could write out the exact transcript, this would really help our case. I personally won't email until I hear/read it myself first so that I don't misconstrue it.

                              If you could post it, awesome, I'll join the campaign. I guarantee we can get the folks at valleytalk to join in on it too.
