Re: Where does this MVC title game rank in your all-time greats list?
I think it's #7 on the list but it goes down as 2014, instead of 2015,which is what it should be.Originally posted by Codytwo View PostWhy is everyone forgetting about our win against WSU earlier this year!?!?!?
I would argue the Iowa games in 1990 and 2001 are in the top 10 for varied reasons. Specifically being statement games to the rest of the state and signaling a new era.
The LSU game was a big one. Here is your Paul Harvey moment for that game. UNI was suppose to play at home for 2 games of that tournament before heading to Vegas. When they couldn't find another team to go on the road, the tourney officials improvised. They brought Hawaii Pacific to play in the Vegas portion of the tourney and asked UNI if they would be willing to go on the road for one of the games. UNI worked out a deal where they said that they would go on the road IF they could pick their opponent and game configuration in Vegas. The tourney, needing UNI to go along said ok. So, UNI got to play at LSU while their students were on break (very dull crowd), play D2 Hawaii Pacific first in Vegas (while Dayton was gassed from playing a very athletic Cincinnati team) and then played Dayton the following day. UNI was able to get rested in the Hawaii Pacific game and then add a very quality win over Dayton. Those Panthers were smart.
Set the table for an at large berth later that year.
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

This story reminds me of the very beginnings of Panther Nation. The man, the myth, the legend. Everyone always asked me, "WHO IS THAT GUY IN REAL LIFE??!"Originally posted by Panthers to the Bone View PostI think it's #7 on the list but it goes down as 2014, instead of 2015,which is what it should be.

Unexpected success, followed by unimaginable failure. And they owned it -- all of it -- for the world to see. Like men. Like leaders. Like champions -- in a way no tournament bracket could ever define."

Re: Where does this MVC title game rank in your all-time greats list?
This years title will not hold up over time compared to other wins. It wasn't against a particularly good team, it wasn't the first title, and didn't get us in the tournament.
With the ranking uni has their season will be defined by their next few games.

Or, you know, the greatest regular season in school history. We don't get to tear down this teams accomplishments based on a single-elimination crap shoot of a tournament.Originally posted by run&blade View PostThis years title will not hold up over time compared to other wins. I hope we go deep, but the season certainly isn't a failure if we don't.

I think the 2006 win in Carver-Hawkeye Arena (Coach Jake's first year) 57-55 after being down by 16 deserves a stop near the top. The end for Coach Alford at Iowa.---------------------------------------------
I don't know why I did it, I don't know why I enjoyed it, and I don't know why I'll do it again. Go Cats!

Ben's game winner at WSU is one of my favorites along with the 2010 tournament run.Originally posted by PantherChic View PostAFter reading this post my husband and I went back and watched a few amazing moments in UNI basketball history. Of course there's the Benny J buzzer beater against Wichita. Then there's the Anthony James buzzer beater 3 pointer to assure that Doug McDermott never wins a game in the McLeod. Had fun watching Oh Newby! again
And looked for Jason Reese's last second shot to watch that but couldn't find it.....
Some great moments and LOTS of great games! Yesterday's 2nd half was definitely one of them!TH1974: This guy was all-UNI, and wanted to show it by pretending to play a non-existant musical instrument in public.

Yes, in '83, same year that UNI started the season with a one-point win over Wisconsin in the Dome. Won by three over K-State in the Dome. Randy Krayenbrink (sp?) and Herb King were on that team. I *think* it was the first winning season after moving up.Originally posted by ClivePurple View PostDidn't we play Jack Hartman's Kansas State team in the Dome one year and beat 'em?"Well, that escalated quickly."

"I think they're very good," Farley said of the preseason top 25 Hawkeyes. "But so are we."
