  • 2017 Battle for Atlantis

Didn't see this posted anywhere or a future schedule thread for basketball. Looks like we're headed to Atlantis. The field includes Arizona, Villanova, Purdue, NC State, Tennessee, SMU, Western Kentucky and Northern Iowa

Great get. We are loaded for 17-18 and that's a great field to see where we're at. I'd heard we were going in 2018, but this is better.

Now to get the Maui Invitational on the schedule...

Maui and Atlantis are two of the best you can play in. Always a big deal to get selected. I'm glad to see UNI continue to schedule for success.

We've got to be due a trip to the Paradise Jam sometime soon too. It's been a couple years since they've been there. 2013 I think?

If you can get in a rotation where every 5 years you are playing in the Paradise Jam, Battle 4 Atlantis, and 2 of the other 3 years in an ESPN run event (Puerto Rico/Orlando/Anaheim/and despite not being one that was friendly to UNI last year...Diamond Head) with a 5th tourney being a 2 home game + 2 neutral game setup (Vegas, South Padre)...that would be pretty awesome.
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

Do our fans usually travel well to these tourneys? Pretty cool that we're going back. I wonder if we get selected because where the program is, how fans travel, or both.
To avoid confusion - my username is baseball (Cy Young award) related, NOT for the Cyclones.

I know we've been told that one reason Wichita gets invited to some of these tournaments is because of how well we travel. And some of these locations make it tempting. I'm trying to save and position myself well enough to follow the Shox to Maui next Thanksgiving.

And the above poster is also correct about getting in a solid rotation of tournaments. There are a handful of other very good ones below Atlantis and Maui and he named off most of them I believe. I know we have also been doing the CBE in KC but have been rubbed the wrong way with some of the games they've lined up for us and I'm not entirely sure if we plan on going back or not. It's not a destination location but it's close and gives more people a chance to watch in person and it's still a solid tournament. They usually try to get one "local" team in it. I believe KU and MU participate. I think Iowa has been in it. It doesn't beat locations like the Bahamas and Puerto Rico but it's cheaper.

I'd be pretty surprised if we go back to Diamond Head. That tournament is pretty much universally hated because of where it falls in the calendar.

It's almost like ESPN uses it as a 'test'. If you're willing to go there, they'll take care of you in other years.

I'll be going! My girlfriend's family is from Nassau and it's a short flight for me from Ft. Lauderdale. Really excited about this news!
