Hey ya all, i hate to bring some bad news to the Panther news board! I was in contact to one of my buddies who is the head guy at Missouri Equipment area and he told me that Quinn Snyder is out and that Mizzou is looking at Mcdermott hard core! They sent some boosters up for the Iowa game and they were impressed. So the University is going to have to pull some serious cash out to keep him, Snyder made over $200,000 being at Mizzou, so i hope UNI can keep him, he is a hell of ball coach, i just hope the money does't drive him away. Like i said i hate to bring this up, but my buddy called me today and told me the bad news. So We are going to need some serious help keeping Coach Mac!

Missouri might not be Kansas, North Carolina or Duke, but it is in a pretty good spot.
Big XII Conference
Brand new $75 million basketball arena
Financial backing-if it is Laurie that wants him there, the money will never be an issue
Look at the pay difference between UNI and Missouri-Quinn Snyder is making over $1 million (Columbia, Mo.- University of Missouri Head Basketball Coach Quin Snyder has agreed to a contract extension, as announced today by Director of Athletics Mike Alden. The agreement, effective January 1, 2003, runs through April 30, 2008, and extends his current contract that expires March 31, 2006. The contract is valued at slightly over $1 million dollars per year over the next five years.)
McDermott won't even make $250,000 until the 2008-09 season. His base salary is $117,000. McDermott's contract runs through 2010, features a five-year rollover clause that renews itself each April, and calls for a salary bump of up to $250,000 annually by the 2008-09 season.

I think they're averaging about 6,000 fans per game right now in that 16,000 seat arena, plus they have another basketball arena on campus that sits completely empty except for Volleyball games with 14,000 empty seats. So, that's like 24,000 empty seats each time Mizzou has a basketball game.
In all seriousness, it's a decent spot and I think the last time Mizzou hired a UNI guy it worked out well for them. (Norm Stewart's inly two coaching gigs were in Cedar Falls and Columbia) But, I think Mizzou is one of the dirtiest programs in the midwest and Mac's not like that. Boosters run-a-muck constantly and the coach has hard time controlling them. They even have what I would call "Uber" donors in the Luaries and the Kroenke's. (Lauries own the St. Louis Blues and the Savvis Center in St. Louis and the Kroenke's own the the Denver Nuggets and the Pepsi Center in Denver...or are at least part-owners.) So, yes, there's a river of money running through that joint, but they don't seem to be very discreet in who they give it to if you know what I mean."10% of life is what happens to you, 90% is how you react to what happens."

Understand where you are going with that one. Somebody, at some time is going to take a stand down at Missouri. It could be a school president, AD, somebody that wants a clean start and Mac would be the way to go. I've been to a few UNI basketball games where it was me and 500 of my closest friends. If Mac could get Mizzou winning again, it would be a packed house every night. It's the nature of the beast.

The donor/booster problem can only be cleaned up via instatutional control, and that has to come from the top. Mac comes in, wins, but cuts these boosters off, then donations to the University go down, and it's Mac who is under fire, even if they are winning. It has to be someone higher up who makes the 'stand.'

Nothing but a mess down there. Coach Mac doesn't seem like the type of person to jump into that.
Coach Mac is different than 95% of DI basketball coaches. He has a lot of pride in this school and what he has done here. He also has unfinished business here. These are some things that money can't overcome.

When he does leave it will be to the right fit program. Mac has already shown that it is not all about the money. He knows his shot will come and right now I don't see that being his type of fit. The only one who really knows is Mac and his family, but comments from him and his family seem to indicate they'll remain in town for a few more years.Originally posted by georgiapantherfanI have to believe that Mac at leasts wants to stay through the opening of the McLeod Center. His time and big payday will come if he chooses to take it.If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

Obviously what needs to be done is get his kids' teachers to hold his kids back.Originally posted by JonsoupI can remember Mac stating he wants to stay at UNI until his kids graduates from high school. As he likes the schools in the Cedar valley.
Living in Cincinnati, I get the tiniest bit of scuttlebutt about Bob Huggins going to MU. You also hear talk about him taking local high school superstars O.J. Mayo and Bill Walker with him wherever he goes. Of course I heard a rumor a week or two ago about the three going to Marshall so take it for what it's worth."And immediately, (P'Allen Stinnett's) Facebook status was spouting vulgarities towards the university."

It's nice to think that way but I think that "money/big time name school" talks. I think Mac is a great coach but imagine if you were coaching basketball for a living and moving up the ranks...don't tell me that if a program like Mizzou came knocking at your door that you'd turn them down. Besides, Missouri can't go anywhere but up from where they're at, you'd think it'd be pretty enticing....that being said, I wouldn't want Mac going there, I hate Missouri and hope they stay in the cellar forever!Originally posted by Reed RothchildNothing but a mess down there.
