  • Average Attendance??

Just wanted some opinions on what the Average Attendance will be for the Valley portion of the Men's Basketball Schedule?

I am thinking between 7000 and 7500. I also think we will have big crowds, maybe around 9000, for Creighton, SIU, WSU, and Missouri State. I think the Cedar Valley has caught on to how good basketball is in the Dome these days, and that may show up in the gate attendance!!

The Valley is FULL of great basketball teams this season and UNI will need all of the help it can get from fans to make the Dome an intimidating place to play this winter! Come on Panther fans...re-direct this positive energy we've had for football for the last 6 weeks and channel it into basketball games. We need a Maniacs section for EVERY home game like it was for the Iowa game. YOU CAN DO IT!

I think they need to start the addition to the McLeod Center. 7,000 seats for screaming UNI fans doesn't seem like enough. The addition could be named after Panther Nation.

This is a sad realization. I think UNI was caught in the middle. Build bigger and risk playing in a half full arena. Build too small and risk alienating fans. I have a feeling that the latter of the two might come into play sooner than the university had expected... Remember, it wasn't long ago when anything over 2,000 was a "decent" crowd for UNI basketball!

This debate of the size of the MAC is really not pertinant at all. The arena will be the perfect size because it will fit the fans who are there, sure they may be games that are sold out, but that doenst alienate fans, it makes them buy the tickets for the next game and next season earlier. Sure the Iowa or ISU Game nets around 15,000 but other than that 7,000 is perfect, and there will not be a bad seat in the whole place. I think it will make an even more exciting and powerful atmosphere and bring the fans together, closer to the team and make UNI basketball take a step up, both mens and womens. I love the dome but this place is going to be a lot of fun to watch the Panthers win games in come next winter.

On the originating thread, I think that once the students get back from break 6000-7000 easy, up to 9000 for Creighton and maybe Indian State and MSU as well. bcrawf has a good point the valley has some great times this year and there is going to be a lot of great basketball played at the dome and around the conference all year. So get your family and friends out to the games, and help make the basketball season as special and exciting as the football season was for UNI.

It seems like every time I guess attendance I underestimate, so maybe I'm our good luck charm as people show up to spite me. I'll say we average 6,500 for MVC games.

4,380 for all home games not including Iowa

It'll be higher than this. Especially if we come back from Vegas at 10-1.
If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times

2005-06 Avg: 6,162 (5 home games so far)
                      2004-05 Avg: 4,692
                      2003-04 Avg: 3,968

Already averaging 1,500 more before the conference season, this is in line for a heckuva year. I dont have data for all seasons but is there any doubt that this is a record by FAR???

                        For comparison:
                        Iowa State: 10,637 (7 games)
                        Iowa: 10,073 (7 games)
                        Drake: 3,222 (5 games)

Closed the gap considerably over the big boys and widened it over Drake.
