  • SIU at UNI

I didn't see a game thread so I thought I'd start one here...
This one is huge for both teams, but more so for UNI.

As a SIU fan I hope we can pull out the win but I'd be surprised if we knocked you off at the Dome of Doom. We hardly ever win there in football or basketball and this year you guys have a great team.

I think we have a chance with you guys running a six man rotation, coupled with the pressure we put on the ball. But I predict a UNI victory in a close, close game.

This is the year we put two teams in the sweet 16 (maybe further) so keep winning every game that you don't play SIU and go Valley!!!!!!

Here is the thread to the game on salukitalk!
    http://www.salukitalk.net/st/viewtopic.php?t=5231

I think you'll be surprised that most SIU fans are not obxoxous, and actually have alot of respect for your team!

Good call it is going to be a very tough game for both teams. Two very different approaches and styles of team, both with good leaders. Its gonna be a fun one that is for sure. Thanks for the message T-Dawg. Its nice to see that SIU puts forth a class act, even in its fan base.

Im in agreement with UNI winning late, on free throws. Just gonna be a tough one to grind out, be we need it thats for sure.

          Should be fun

One way or the other, it should be a lot of fun! I am nervous about SIU's pressure, but the guys will be full of intensity in front of what is hopefully a decent crowd.
          Thanks for the post T-Dawg.

SIU caused 25 Drake TO's Saturday night. T-Dawg, I noticed that SIU really only plays 6 guys too (significant minutes). Does this concern Saluki fans?

UNI is favored by 6 points tonight. Seems a bit high.

Only playing 6 guys is usually more about who they are playing against. You play against a team like Iowa State and it's pretty rough to only have 6 guys. Play a team like Iowa and you are ok. UNI is probably some where in the middle.

Massive game. Probably as close to a gotta win situation as can exist at this point in the season. Should be a good game, but UNI should be able to pull away (it is an SIU team playing in the doom after all). Since I got in my bashing of the lack of class shown by many WSU fans earlier in the year let me say how much I have always appreciated SIU fans. I've met many of them in St. Louis and they almost all seem polite, knowledgeable, positive, and are great about routing for all Valley teams. Same for their team. Looking forward to tonight...

                    What's everyone's prediction

I think it's going to be another low scoring game
                    Hopefully the score will be
                    UNI - 58
                    SIU - 55

With hopefully a large crowd around 8,500

On a side note. Did anybody know that Panther guard Michael Williams is the cousin of Jerry Rice? That is what is written on his profile on the Panthers website. I am new here so this might have already been brought up.

                      Predictions:
                      UNI - 61
                      SIU - 54

I agree its going to be tough to find open shots tonight, so I hope the bigs are ready to do some heavy lifting again.

                          UNI- 63
                          SIU- 58

                          Possibly an OT game.

I hope to hear a loud crowd on the radio tonight with Gary and KB.

Put me on record as Southern being re-exposed as a solid team but not one of UNI's caliber. Their RPI in the teens is a fraud because it doesn't include the loss to AK-Anchorage. I think UNI has the experience to handle the trademark pressure D of the Salukis and in turn will shut down SIU with their own solid D. This game has the type of electricty surrounding it that usually brings out the best in Benny and I think we will kill them down low as well. This is a game UNI has to have if they want to win a regular season conference title outright and I think they know that. A younger team may shy away from that pressure, but I don't think this team will. They've been there before and will draw from that experience. Benny, Stout and Coleman will be huge and I think the Panthers win in convincing fashion...double digits minimum. We will find out how good this team is without Crawford tonight. His loss remains huge, but I think others will step up.
...by Odeon. It's illegal in nine countries. Yep, it's made with bits of real panther. So you know it's good."
