  • Questions for the Greg McDermott Call In Show

    Hey all,

I'm compiling questions you might have for Coach Mac to send to Gary for the show on Thursday. Of course you can call in like normal (HINT HINT) but this way he gets some questions for the ol' coach.

It would be super if you could get them to me before midnight Wednesday night, so I can send them to him to have by Thursday morning. Thanks!

PS--if you do call, I'm not running the show this week, there's women's basketball at the same time, and that gives me more hours, and then Dennis (the boss) doesn't have to stay nearly as long.

    Ask the coach

Hi, You can wish Coach Mac well for me, and it was a hard fought game at Creighton. Will be there cheering them on Saturday afternoon. Also, I heard Gary Rima talk about the loss of his niece. Please extend my sympathies to his family. Thanks.

I'd like to hear about what it was like inside the locker room after the game at Creighton. Was it a room of exhausted players, or angry players, or angry coaches, or perhaps blank expressions of confusion? How do you get the team to shake off the long faces?

PS-there is another message board with even more questions-much better than mine.

I'd like to know how practice has been going this week. Light workouts? Shooting? Film?

I compiled the questions from this thread and the other one, and sent Gary the link where you all wished him and his family well. I think he was really touched that people had paid attention and had him in their thoughts.

Thanks FSgirl. I think that processes worked well.

Is there a way we could put this thread, or one like it, as a sticky for the rest of the season? Mod? JC?

I might as well get my questions in early:

First, what areas would Atila Santos need to improve in order to play more minutes?

Second, there have been complaints by some coaches and teams about the current Bracket Buster format. Do you see it changing next season?
"Lot of people talked about Ohio State or Georgetown or Michigan State or whoever, [or] Maryland in our bracket. When the brackets came out, the first team I looked at was Northern Iowa," Kansas Coach Bill Self.

What is Coach Mac's assessment of Travis Brown's defense? Can he make an impact during the post season, especially after Erick's return?

Being a North Mahaska alumn, I love seeing Grant playing the way he is this year. He's not real flashy but he's consistent as they come. I was just wondering if you like recruiting the smaller school players opposed to the bigger school talent. Do you find that smaller school players are taught more in the fundamental areas?? Thanks for you answer.

First, since people are curious what the finished McLeod Center will look like, besides the architectural images, was the McLeod Center modeled after an existing arena?

Second, how is it decided as a coach of a non-BCS conference team who to target for recruiting so that you're not wasting your time recruiting players who aren't likely to sign with a MVC school, while still trying to recruit the best caliber players who will attend UNI?

Third, how many high school and JUCO players does your staff evaluate in a typical recruiting year?

Fourth, what changes, if any, would you make in the current Bracket Buster format?

                            Ooh, good questions!

I even tried to ask one last week, but technology failed me--Gary and Greg couldn't hear me.

The rest of us listening to the show could hear you loud an clear, Flagship Girl, so try it again this week. Lots of good callers on last week and many of them first timers, I believe. We need to hear more from Panther Nation on the coach's call-in show Thursday night at 6 pm on KXEL 1540 AM. Gary does a great job hosting and Mac loves the questions.
