3 in the top 20 and 6 in the top 50 is really incredible! If the NCAA used this RPI it would be hard to go against 5 in the NCAA from the MVC>

The MVC's median RPI is 45, behind the Big 10 at 24, Big East at 32, and ahead of the ACC at 58, SEC at 65, Pac 10 at 84, and Big 12 at 88.

There will be so much pressure on the NCAA Selection Committee to take 4 and 5 teams from the Big 12 and Pac 10, that it's hard to see the MVC, regardless of RPI, receiving more than 4 bids. If SIU stumbles at the end, and UNI, Creighton, or Wichita State win the MVC Tournament, it could be down to 3 bids.

SIU has a tough stretch to close hosting UNI, Missouri State, and Louisiana Tech, and on the road at Creighton, Bradley, and Evansville. SIU could lose another at home, and at Creighton and Bradley. SIU has not beaten an MVC team on the road with a winning record, and only one non-conference team, Murray State.

Likewise, Missouri State has a tough stretch hosting Creighton and Evansville but having road games at UNI, SIU, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Illinois State. The Bears haven't beaten an MVC team on the road with a winning record, and only one non-conference team, Oral Roberts.

Iowa has not played well on the road this season. Don't be surprised if they lose their three remaining road games at Indiana, Minnesota, and Illinois, and they have two tough home games (Michigan State and Wisconsin) along with Penn State, although after Penn State won at Champaign maybe Penn State isn't quite a lock. Iowa won't win the Big 10.

Next season, Iowa will be a 7th to 9th place Big 10 team unless their JUCO's play pretty well. Supposedly Kurt Looby will be a big-time shot blocker like Hansen, but I remember he also averaged next to nothing points and rebounding his last JUCO season.

Not to do with RPI, but national rankings. At about 12:30 a.m. after WSU game Tuesday on my way home the Omaha sports talk radio station that carries Creighton games (they've been somewhat negative toward the Panthers lately) had to break away for a national update. "and the 25th ranked Northern Iowa Panthers defeated Wichita State in Cedar Falls . . . It was great!
