  • Snyder resigns at Missouri

Let the rumor mill go into overdrive.
...by Odeon. It's illegal in nine countries. Yep, it's made with bits of real panther. So you know it's good."

    My prediction:

John Bilien from West Virginia will be their next coach.

I actually agree, for what that's worth. He's done a fantastic job at a 'non-power' school, and keeping WVU on top in that league is going to be a nearly impossible task.

I'll be honest, I think Mizzou is a poison situation.

ESPN.com's Andy Katz reports that UAB's Mike Anderson, Northern Iowa's Greg McDermott, Creighton's Dana Altman, West Virginia's John Beilein and ESPN analyst Rick Majerus are possible candidates to succeed Snyder after Watkins' interim tenure

In other words, any coach who's a 'hot name' at the moment.

He might as well have said "The sky is blue".

Guys like Andy Katz are half reporter/half fictional gossip columnists. How is he "reporting" that McDermott, et al., are candidates? He is reporting that Quin Snyder stepped down and at best speculating/making up that these guys may be candidates. I don't think he can report this until he has some sources or announcement from the university. This Kirk Ferentz all over again. I hate ESPN.

                McDermott

The job is his for the taking pretty much. I have a buddy who is athletic trainer down at Mizzou and he knew snyder was going to step down and he heard some of the boosters talking after last weeks game about how UNI was doing and how McDermott has done a good job changing the program around. So pretty much if Mizzou offers McDermott the right amount money I bet he goes. Why would he stay for 250,000 at UNI when he go into a powerhouse conference and play against some of the best teams and get paid over 700,000 dollars to coach. I really hope he stays at UNI, but every man has a price.

I agree with what was said above, Mizzou isn't a step up, its a step down. The money may be bigger, but Mac can keep what he has going and really make a huge name for himself and get a great job. I just don't think Mizzou will ever be a basketball power, and if Mac goes, which I don't think he will, I hope he proves me wrong. But for now I think Mac has a great thing going, and he has some big time players coming next year, in a fabulous new arena. Just my thoughts.

Another factor to consider is that Mike Davis will probably be fired from Indiana after this season and there could be an opening south on I-380

Well, for the next 6-8 weeks, this is what we're going to deal with. I hope we can all just enjoy the excitement we have left in this year without worrying to much about the furture.

My quick take: Mizzou might offer, but Mac doesn't take. Yes, the money and "profile" are better, but here's why.

It's no secret to anyone with half a brain that Mizzou is a BAD situation. The boosters run the show down there, and they aren't worried about "rules" very much. In fact, I've heard 'rumors' (and they are nothing more then that at this point) from people I know in Columbia that ALLEGEDLY there might be NCAA sanctions and an investigation in the works, things are that bad. This is just what I hear.

While Mizzou has a higher profile then UNI, it's not exactly a 'sexy', top-notch situation. It's a program that can contend in the Big XII at times, but isn't going to challenge Kansas or Texas for extended periods of time.

Mac, assuming things continue, will be in a position where he can wait for the PERFECT situation.

My guess: He's our for exactly as long as it takes for a job in Iowa City to come open.

If these next recruiting classes become what they are supposed to be, Mac will spend 4 very successful years in a brand new arena and be able to chose just about any job he wants. He won't have to get paid by settling for Missouri.

NOOOOOOOOOOO! I read somewhere today about maybe Davis being canned and Alford being hired (Indiana's own funeral, I'm sure Hawk fans would gift wrap Stevie). Whatever the case, unless Coach K and all his assistants kill over Mac is not leaving this year for the reasons repeated on this site 5 times a day. Regardless, Mizzou or anyone else won't make a non-Majerus move until March and there are many more pertanant things for us to worry about before that (MSU, Bracketbuster, Senior night, MVC title, MVC tourny, NCCA tourny, etc.)

I've already offered to help load his moving van.
