you're an idiot and lucky you weren't sitting by me. you could've taken away the shot we had to win the game.

Besides the hat (it was two sections over from me behind the basket), I also saw a purple and gold rugby shirt come flying from the band. It didn't reach the court, but it looked like it reached the MSU bench. Both of those things were uncalled for. A T in that situation would have been the last thing we needed. The crowd has got to help the team win, not hurt it.

Considering a couple of the calls towards the end of the game the refs were lucky a band instrument did not land on the court...

True, but a drumstick was pitched by our excitable drummer. Give him a break, it's his first year, and we set him aside afterwards telling him to calm the hell down. But yeah. Band. Leave 'em alone. That ESPECIALLY goes out to that obnoxious-ass marketing director who thinks he's in command of us.

What did he try to do with the band after the game? can you fill us in.

Yes, I'd like to hear just a bit more about what prompts these sorts of comments. Was someone out of hand, or was someone from the deparment trying to coordinate the band with the rest of the arena's activities in ways the band was unhappy with?

I think the UNI Staff is in command of what the band does. Last I heard they pay your directors tuition and the pep bands scholarships, and those silly shirts the band wears.

The Band rocks when they are paying attention and playing good stuff. Otherwise give me cotton eyed joe any time!

I did see that shirt flying, that was classy!

Do pep band scholarships (whatever they may be) come from the athletic department? I personally doubt it, but I have been wrong before.

Regardless, I personally prefer hearing the pep band over a recording any time. We didn't even get the pep band's version of The Final Countdown on Saturday

                Europe's Final Countdown=Junk; Pep Band's Final Countdown=Fun.

Pep band is way better than any recording.

Maybe the band should show up for every game instead of not coming when they can't get paid. That would show some loyalty to me. Also, if they are paying for your services (which I believe they used to...and I think still are), then they are in control of you. Please God PLEASE, don't throw stuff on the court in St. Louis.

People are mad about a "Tractor" sign, yet we had morons in our fan base throwing stuff at the court and then...there are people condoning it on this site. Are you kidding me? No matter how piss poor a call is...you NEVER throw anything at the floor. What if that drum stick had hit Grant Stout in the eye...making him miss the last four games? Good idea then? Please...grow up.

Agreed...personal attakcs are not necessary. If you want to voice displeasure in how things were handled, sobeit...but no name calling please.
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

                            Oooooookaaaaaayyyy:

I see we all are pretty much worked up into a tizzy here. I believe that calmer heads always prevail, it's just that I don't have one normally. I do now, so let's debunk some stuff here.

Maybe the band should show up for every game instead of not coming when they can't get paid. That would show some loyalty to me.
The Wichita State game was a volunteer effort, just so you know. Also, only about 70% of the band gets paid 100 dollars for the entire season, so I can understand how getting those PHAT paychecks could make us a little bit listless. Seriously though, we show up when we can. There was only one MVC game this season we weren't going to be at, and that was Wichita State. We volunteered. It's very difficult to put something like that together when your director has to be there with a set list, I'm assuming he has to let the staff know ahead of time that the band will in fact be there, and most importantly, you have to have certain people there. It would be rather pointless to have 15 clarinets, 2 trumpets, a trombone and a flute show up. You're gonna need at least a drummer, a bassist or tubist (something to that effect), and a lot of brass. It's apparent that this statement was made without knowledge of logistics.

I think the UNI Staff is in command of what the band does.
No, they're not. I can't stress this enough. Our graduate assistant is in charge, and if he isn't then the Director of Bands for the UNI School of Music is in charge. If they have concerns, they should look him up. The band has been told this year that their music selection is stale, and then they have questionable choices of when to play. It seems to me that if the UNI Staff (whoever these people are, that's a fairly broad term, FWIW) wants to pay to have these new shirts and to pay the director and the 29 band members who are on scholarship, they should let them play a little bit more than what they do instead of playing "I LIKE TO MOVE IT MOVE IT" when we're in a tight game with 30 seconds left as opposed to... oh, I don't know... the fight song.

Oh, and when people throw shirts and sticks and whatever else they threw (which, by the way was all one guy and we told him to grow the hell up), that's an individual. Yes, you can feed me the "they are a member of the Pep Band and therefore represent the University" arguement, but I guarantee you it was not a group decision for one person to throw one shirt. If, for example, one football player commits a personal foul during the course of a game, I don't hold that entire footbal team in bad standing because of one guy.

The Band rocks when they are paying attention and playing good stuff. Otherwise give me cotton eyed joe any time!
WE ARE NOT THE NEW YORK YANKEES. What's next, "Bang the Drum All Day" or "Who Let the Dogs Out?" Put away your Jock Jams tape, please.

There. I guess I wasn't as level-headed as I thought, but let's address things that actually need adressing instead of this "Pep Band is retarded and they act like monkeys, we know what's best for 'em" nonsense. Thank you.

Do you feel that Athletic Department at a college should have to pay the music department to have a pep band at a game? That's like the right hand paying the left hand. It just doesn't make sense. I wish the Music Department would find it worthy to NOT charge the Athletic Department for a pep band any longer. It's ridiculous.

Also, IF the Athletic Department is PAYING you...then you're an ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT employee...so they are in charge. Hell, if you're going to whine about getting paid to attend basketball games, I'll pull my sax out of moth balls and play for free and save the A.D. some money.
