  • A Bucknellian Posting On The PanthersNation Board!?!?!

Hey everybody. I'm actually not here to talk trash. I just wanted to mention how psyched almost all of Bucknell is for this game on Saturday. I kinda wanted some advice about the Dome because the Bucknell pep band is travelling out to Iowa for the game. Are UNI fans at the Dome crazy, vulgar and general *******s like some east coast fans? As an opposing team's band in a hostile environment, we definitely expect jeering and whatnot, but I just want to let the rest of the band know what kind of environment we are going into on Saturday. Also, I wanted to give everyone a heads up that if you hear an Orange-and-Blue clad band playing the UNI Fight Song, we aren't mocking your team at all. Bucknell's president asked us to play the UNI fight song once as a "thank you" for the UNI band supporting us in our win over Kansas last year in the first round.

    *Commence Bucknell bashing *

We're excited as hell to have you guys, and I think the fact you're playing our fight song once is simply incredible!

The UNI-Dome is easily the most UNIque building you'll have played in, it's truly one of a kind. The fans will probably give you guys a hard time, but I sincerely hope you won't take too much grief. "Nasty" isn't a word I'd use at all!

    Travel safely (if you're coming!)

You'll find that UNI fans are pretty classy and are very passionate about their team. The student section will have their fun, but that is to be expected.

No bashing here. We have a lot of common threads and we have tremendous respect for your program. Rick Hartzell is our current AD and your former AD (as you know) and he hired the two coaches in this game on Saturday (not too shabby...RPI's of #16 and #18). We both played in the Oklahoma City 'pod' last season and the UNI Pep Band sat in for your band and wore the Orange and Blue for one day. We also watched as you took down Kansas, so we know what level of basketball is coming to the UNI-Dome this Saturday morning.

Generally, I think most UNI fans are actually pretty classy. They cheer hard FOR the Panthers and not AGAINST the opponent. It's such a family oriented environment, that I don't think you'll hear a lot of vulgarity. Last Saturday night we had a great atmoshpere with just over 10,000 fans...we hope that many show up for this HUGE game this week.

If you're coming, please travel safe and have fun while you're here. Go Panthers!!! Good luck Bison!

I think that it will be very interesting to have an opposing team's band come and play in the Dome. In my short life I don't ever remember this happening. It probably happened when we hosted the conference tournament, but now that it's in St. Louis most teams bands travel with them. I went to the NCAA Tournament in Oklahoma City and it was a really great time. I was pulling for Bucknell in the upset over Kansas having no idea that our pep band was playing for you guys. We saw that Wisconsin's band stayed and ours left and that most of the songs were the same. So when I found out it all made sense. Having Bucknell play our fight song will be a great experience. I'm looking forward to a great college basketball on Saturday! Go Panthers!!
Coach Whisenhunt 1/18/09. "There was never any complaints about not being named the starter, all he wanted was an opportunity and he took advantage of it. Kurt is probably one of the greatest individuals you'll ever meet. Kurt worked hard on a lot of things that a lot of times older quarterbacks aren't willing to do. That's a credit to his humility and his competitive drive, and the reason that we are here today in great part is what Kurt Warner has done for us."

I hope I'm not making this up, but I'm pretty sure SMS brought their pep band when we hosted the Mid-Con tourney in '90. It wasn't really a full pep band though, as they just played crap like the nyaaa-nyaa-nyaa mocking sounds after a missed free throw. Good ol' SMS. I'm sure they haven't changed much. Can't remember if they actually played music...

Will be great to have a "tourney" atmosphere with Bucknell in the house!!

Its not that unique for you guys, having already played and unfortuantely for me being an Orange fan, beatin Syracuse in the Carrier Dome. That is about the closest thing to what we have as you will find here with the difference being about 10,000 fans. It obviously didnt bother your shooting that night.
