Oh, those "sources." First, who are these "sources?" The same "sources" that have Ferentz getting read for the Combine in Houston? Or Green Bay? Or Cleveland?
Second, IF they offer him. They probably don't even have a list yet, and there are a dozen reasons why someone else might be at the top of that list.
This is a rubbish report by a rubbish network. Let's keep the BS speculation to a minimum and try to keep our discussions at least 1% in reality.

They could be the same "sources" that said Herm Edwards was going to be the Chiefs coach? Who would have thought that?Originally posted by NewsbreakerOh, those "sources." Why would they need a list if they have their guy?
Name one reason why someone else would be their top guy.**Go ** Panthers** and Buckeyes**!!

There are lots of reasons. Here are a few:
*Alford's less then stellar Big Ten track record
*Alford's allegiance to Knight, and Indiana's difficulty in distancing themselves from him
*The AD's desire to get one of 'his' guys
*There are other, equally qualified (and possibly more) former Indiana players who would make fine candidates.
I can go on, but my point is made.

Alford is in Indiana. There is quite possibly a U-haul in his driveway. The AD wants to keep his job and he will bring in an Indiana legend to save it. Damion Bailey is a few years away so Alford is the choice. The place is in total disaray. They need a homeboy to bring it back in to place.
I am not trying to bait you. I am curious on who the other former Indiana players they might bring in are? Who has had success at the I-A level to come in there and coach. They will not bring in a nobody to coach. Basketball is all they have. It's their moneymaker!**Go ** Panthers** and Buckeyes**!!

On ESPN News within the last ten minutes, so it will probably be repeated, was a discussion of the Davis resignation where it was commented that Alford was probably the top candidate, but they didn't feel he would ultimately be the new IU Coach.Originally posted by Front Row PantherAlford is in Indiana. A non-IU name that's come up other places such as SI, and was mentioned last year at this time when rumors had Davis being fired, is Rick Barnes. His only IU connection, that I know of, is IU Alum Mark Cuban, who is a big fan of Barnes.
Alford is not the overwhelming choice of IU fans. For the last year where you've seen an IU fan comment on Davis' possible replacement, a majority have said they did not want Alford. They know Alford has not done well at Iowa, and a few have commented about how much Iowa fans want Alford gone."Lot of people talked about Ohio State or Georgetown or Michigan State or whoever, [or] Maryland in our bracket. When the brackets came out, the first team I looked at was Northern Iowa," Kansas Coach Bill Self.

The Alford sentiment is mostly an 'outside-Indiana' concoction. Sure, there are some who want him, but his record in Iowa City has soured many more on him.
If I know this place as well as I think I do, I suspect there are a few cheering for Alford to leave for IU, as they will attempt to harold it as a defeat for the Hawkeyes.

I was at work earlier, and now have time to give you a couple of names to chew on:
Dan Dakich - Bowling Green
**Played for Bob Knight, was a Knight assistant for 11 years.
Randy Wittman - Orlando Magic Assistant
**Played for Knight, long time NBA coach

One of your quotes from an earlier post stated the current AD wants one of his guys. The gentlemen you mentioned played for Mr Bobby Knight. How are those "his guy?"Originally posted by NewsbreakerI was at work earlier, and now have time to give you a couple of names to chew on:

Let us be totally, truely, most certainly, I swear to god honest. I hate(I know bad word, but an honest word) the Hawkeyes. You have to believe Indiana will offer Alford the job. They want to bring back one of their own. Do you remember the seasons of UNI football that we didn't have one our own, i.e. Earl Bruce, Mike Dunbar??? How great were those seasons? Stellar, eh? What happened when we brought back one of our own?
I will bet you, Newsbreaker, $20, that Indiana hires Alford. It's right here on PN as proof.

I honestly do not believe that it is a certainty that they will offer the job to Alford. The IU faithful, those who poisoned Mike Davis, are not in favor of Alford, and if they hire him and he flames out, you have a mess of absolutely epic proportions.
There are lots of names, the AD has his 'own' people, and the Knight tree (if that's what it has to be) is deeper then just Alford. Time will tell, but as often happens in these situations, there are people making calls on what will happen, before the decision makers have even decided.

A Hawkeye friend sent me this link http://www2.indystar.com (the Indianapolis Star newspaper's website) where he was disappointed to see that IU fans, discussing who should replace Davis, a significant percentage support Alford, but a majority seem to oppose his hiring. Some Iowa fans have posted saying please take Alford. If you get the Star's frontpage, it's along the top under Top Clicks Feedback: Who Should Be Next Coach.Originally posted by Front Row PantherOne of your quotes from an earlier post stated the current AD wants one of his guys. well pretty much anyone whos an IU guy thats ready to take over a program is a guy that played under knight unless hes really old or just went to IU and wasnt on the BBall team like Charlie Weis at Notre Dame. i think the new jersey nets coach was a towel boy or something for indiana, they should go after him.
