  • Really smart non-play by Brooks at the end.

I haven't seen anybody else mention this, but I thought that Brooks did something very smart by not going after that ball that was thrown out of bounds by Bucknell at the end of the 1st overtime. For a split second I was upset he didn't go after it until I realized that we would have had the ball 3/4's of the court away from the basket with under three seconds left. Good thing I wasn't playing.

Really happy we won this game today. As a college basketball fan, I experienced both the thrill of victory and agony of defeat today. By way of explanation, I grew up in Ames going to Iowa State games at Hilton and am still a huge fan. I went to school at UNI and got my bachelor's in '97, so I have two favorite teams I can cheer for. ISU totally blew their game against a ranked Oklahoma team on the road

If both my teams had lost their games in agonizing fashion, I think I might have had to call in sick to work today.

I hope everyone realizes that this an obvious example of how Brooks contributes to this team. He might not throw in 10 a night, but he is always doing little things like this to make this team great.

I need to see the play again, but I thought Brooks also was very good on denying a man on that inbounds, then made a VERY heads up play (that many people would've screwed up, IMHO) on the violation.

ya that was a great play, my buddies and I were really impressed by that play. I know all of us said if it were us that were running after that ball, we would've grabbed it and hurled it towards the basket for a hail mary. Sure glad Brooks was back their and not me or one of my friends. Also goes to show why I was probably never considered much of a basketball player

          We said the same thing.

in his postgame interview with Mr. Rima, Coach McDermott said something along the lines of:
There were 8400 people there, and 8399 of them would have grabbed the ball in that situation. Heck, *I* probably would have tried to play it...

So Coach Mac was definitely giving props to Brooks for his smart play.

I would have to agree with Mac on that one. Most people would have grabbed the ball and called a timeout OR fielded the ball and tried a long heave at the basket. I dunno about Brooks being the only one who would have done what he did, but it was the "play of the game" in my book!

Was probably the most heads up play I've seen in a long time, if not ever. Good for Brooks and good for the Panthers!

My immediate reaction was to scream "don't touch it" and my wife and a women sitting in front of us both said "what". I am pretty sure that if I was on the court I would have grabbed the ball, so I have to give Brooks all the credit for thinking and reacting in a split second. I also think Brooks did a nice job of dropping down on Bucknell's big men down the stretch to hound them. From the 5+ minutes mark left with Bucknell having a 9 point lead, UNI put the clamps on them allowing only 3 points and forcing 4 turnovers. Those are the Panthers who we know and love!

Why did Brooks only get 29 minutes yesterday?? The offense runs so much more smoothly when he is on the floor, and on the defensive end he makes little plays that the casual fan doesn't think anything of that make a huge difference. Bothering big men, great help, etc...

They sat Brooks during the run in the second half when Travis Brown was hitting those threes. I think they kept the same lineup out there the whole time during that lineup.
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

Brooks also had a good play during UNI's run in the 2nd half where he drove to the right side and wrapped a pass around the defender , where Coleman then snagged it with his elastic arm and velcro left-hand for a lay up from the left hand side.

I'd love to see more of that penetrate and dish to Coleman/Stout from UNI's guards.
Winning is more fun than losing.

I've said this 1,000 times. WE DON'T PENETRATE AND DISH. Mac runs and offense based on set plays. If one of his plays includes a drive to the lane and a dish out, I haven't seen it.

...Mac also runs an offense that fits his team. When a play breaks down, a guy that can get in the lane at-will (Tatum from SIU for example) would be a HUGE asset. You can think what you want, but if we had a guy that could get into the middle out there, you can bet the house that McDermott would have plays that involved this said player getting into the lane and dishing the ball. None of the players playing right now have this ability, but if we could get one that possesses this ability, McDermott's play calling would change. No doubt about it...

I agree 100%. I thought Mike Williams would bring that this year. Maybe he'll come around next year. From what people are saying Kwadzo should also be able to fit that mold.
