As bad as last night's game was and the bumps in the road the last week or so, you've got to admit something.

Isn't it a lot better than there are some fans that have enough passion for this team that they can vent?
I was at UNI when we were in the Mid-Continent Conference and then first got into the Valley. If UNI lost it was no big deal and no one would really say much. No one, with a few exceptions would really care that much even if we started winning a little bit. Now, with the expectations higher and the bar raised after two straight NCAA trips, people care about the program and get ticked off when the team is not performing well.
I'll take this any day of the week!!
It's like a marriage. I'd rather be married to a fiery, great looking, knock out blonde and have an all-out argument once in a while than to be in a loveless marriage and just exist and cohabitate with no emotion and energy. It makes making up alot better and you know where everyone stands and what their thoughts are about each other!!

Mac is no spring chicken or village idiot. He and his staff are the best thing that has happened to the program recently.
I've got faith that he will put the players in a position to be successful the next few weeks. That is all we can ask for as a Panther fan.

This is a great post. I'm sick of being told that venting is negative and we are "bandwagon jumpers" and "not real fans" (NOTE: this hasnt happened as much after last night's game compared to others - why? B/c its now gut check time, its not as easy for even the 100% positive fans to look at the situation and say, "hey, we'll get 'em next time" b/c the "next time(s)" are running out quickly.)

Just last week I was listening to KFAN up in Minneapolis and they were talking about this exact topic. Basically it centered around the fact that absolutely no one was calling in upset about how bad the Gopher b-ball team had played. They thought it was a true testament to just how far down the totem poll Gopher sports were and one of the co-host (Jeff Dubay) said...

'I might disagree with some of their points but I never get upset when fans are calling into complain because it at least shows me that they are passionate about their teams and I'll take a b!tching fan any day over fans that are this passive.'

You don't break out the Purple and Gold on game days or look for special gifts and gadgets bearing the colors because you want to be seen among the loyal. Purple and Gold aren't colors you see---they're colors you feel. They run through your veins with a continuous roar.

Yeah I agree but last night when fans started to leave with mintues to go it showed me that they don't care about their team. I waited like few people did to leave b/c I for one am proud of what the panthers have done for the community and for UNI. I would never leave a game early just b/c we are losing that not a good excuse. True fans stay with their team through the thick and thin and don't jump on them when they have an off night. It happens!

Honestly, I think those of you that think this should feel ashamed for making these accusations. Just like these fans "showed (you)" that they dont care you showed me your lack of understanding.

Never, ever, ever question someone's loyalty that came out to support the team on a Wednesday night.

See the thread about this entitled "To those who..." for my thoughts as well as many others that are in full agreement.

I know people are passionate about UNI basketball. I wish some fans would of stayed until the last buzzer. This was the last game for 3 seniors and they deserved to see everyone still in the stands until the end. Madcat i went overbroad that my fault. I just wish people would have stayed the whole time instead of leaving.

My apologies too, so did I. I guess I just feel like after a loss we try to make a divide between "real" fans and "bandwagon" fans, and I guess I dont see it that way.

I do, however find irony in the fact that I myself am defending those that left early because its something I personally would never do. But like I said in that other thread, I got ripped once for saying things about fans leaving and some posters kind of opened my eyes that there are some circumstances where leaving is ok (older fans, families with kids on weeknight, etc) so I try to remember that whenever this subject gets brought up.

And like bcrawf says, at least we aren't Iowa (I thank my lucky stars for this every day!! ) where many of them leave at the under-4 TO no matter what the score is!!

Thats a bunch of crap. I drove 2 hours from Des Moines to watch the game. We left early because it was over, I have school in the morning, and Jeg had to work in the morning. Some of the people that care about this team live outside of the Cedar Valley.

I don't think venting is negative...but it can bring a negative air to a program if that's all that is done after a loss. Look, last night was an aberration, and anomoly, an oddity, a peculiarity a deviation from the norm. UNI doesn't get blown out and Bradley doesn't shoot 62% from the field. If you guys can vent, I can try to be the voice of reason. I love the passion that you all display after wins and losses, but for some who have been passionate since the Mid-Con days...the venting looks like whining and *****ing. This team is still great and they will prove as much over the next month.

Let's do what all good fans do the next couple of days, get through the week, do a great job at work, love your friends and families and have a great Thursday and Friday...then wake up Saturday morning, read the paper, put on your favorite UNI Panther gear and get ready for the Panthers to beat SIU. (for those that think I'm telling you how to be a good fan...I'm not, if you disagree with me...that is completely your prerogative. This is just how I will handle the next couple of days.)
