    No way was it bad coaching, Gregory is God. I'll trade you Morgan and a 6-pack for Greg, straight up.

      Yeah, I had to turn on my radio for the last 2 minutes...Thanks ESPN.

      Oh well, saved me from having another loss permanently emblazoned in my mind.

      Anybody know when I can start buying tickets to the NIT?????

        I'm not trying to say "I told you so" but I had a feeling all along (and posted it right when it happened) that getting ranked was the worst thing to happen to this team. In no way am I saying the got cocky, instead, I think the opposite happened. All of a sudden it was, "Oh man, we knew we were good but now ESPN, SI, Fox Sports, etc, etc, etc wants to talk to us," and they started playing like a team trying to protect their status as a top team rather than going out and grabbing it. It's too bad to say that they couldn't live up to the hype but I'm not sure how you could look at it any other way.

        I think they have to win at least one in the MVC, but you never know. If you look at the entire body of work compared to last year, we have a better OOC record, the same MVC record and basically the same RPI, playing in a conference that is much stronger this year than it was last year. The key difference I believe though is that we didnt finish strong, and the comittee seems to value that. I think its time for us all to become huge Iowa, LSU, and Bucknell fans (all OOC wins over teams that may win their conf) in addition to cheering against the other "bubble" teams.

        It bares repeating though... '04/05 MVC Record: 11-7, '05/06: 11-7. Pretty amazing, IMO.

          Did UNI have a timeout left at the end of the game? If so, why didn't Mac call a time out and set something up.

          Also, why have we become Iowa State and become so dribble oriented? I told my wife last week that UNI could end up the season with 4 straight loses and be done.

          Despite how bad we played, we had a shot.

            As I said on the other thread, I also think they would be better off if he wasn't starting, not because he's bad, but because he's not a PG, so others are having to create their own shots much of the time, and he doesn't do anything offensively.

              the cbssportsline scoreboard that i have up says 0 timeouts left for either team.

                that is what I'm worried about. Previous times, UNI has played decent for most of the season, but then really turned it on at the end. And I get the feeling those type of teams have a better chance of getting selected, (because they have momentum and have a better chance of having tournament success).

                where as this season, UNI had an amazing sprint (well, down-to-the-wire games that they managed to come out on top) that put them ahead of the pack. But towards the end, they've lost steam and the others have all caught and surpassed them.

                And unfortunately, it is quite tough to regain that positive momentum...

                  I agree, we've looked really bad as of late. Consider that the only teams we beat this second time through the conference schedule were Drake (by 1), Illinois St. and Evansville.

                  The way we're playing, we really have no business in the NCAA.

                      Last 3 games, our points scored:

                      Bucknell = 51 points (Regulation)
                      Bradley = 49
                      SIU = 45

                      Sweet.

                        I saw on one of the threads the question whether UNI had any timeouts remaining. On CBS Sportsline, they have the full play by play of the game. They show that UNI used three full timeouts at 18:16, 12:02, and 4:47 of the second half but not the 30 second timeout.

                          Mac said on the post game interview that they set up what they wanted to do the rest of the way during Grants free throw, which was if SIU made a basket to take the lead go to Benny for the last shot. Taking a time out would have only given Southern more time to plan to defend it.

                          You dance with the gal that brung ya, and you win some you lose some. Mostly lose this year on games that come down to final possession.

                            Well, no offense to Mac, but I dont know how they could have defended it any better than they did.

                            I know its frantic but there was nothing going on when we crossed 1/2 court... should have taken the TO with 4 secs left, if not right away after the make.

                            Actually, I would have taken the the TO right after Grant made the 2nd free throw just to make extra sure the "D" was set, the defense at the end was pretty poor... it was one of SIU's best looks in the final 10 minutes of the game.

                              Well I only know what he said, I don't know how well it was defended because I didn't get to see the final play or the last 3 minutes of the game since the screen went blank.

                              Aparently one of our posters on here called Mediacom to complain about the HD and they just pulled the plug on the whole thing. That's the sort of thing Mediacom will do just to remind you they are a monopoly and they are not going to put up with any complaints.

                              I'm not surprised it was well defended, I don't think it's a very big secret we might go to Benny in that situation.

                                Gonzo - As you said on another thread, until we can hit the broadside of a barn from outside, this team is in trouble. I raised this issue last week too. Our inside game skews all of the stats. We can't buy an outside shot and this team needs that shot to win games. Otherwise, we'll see the teams in St Louis continue to pack the lane and dare us to shoot. We've been doing it to teams for years and it has finally come back to haunt us. I have a hard time believing a 22-9 record won't get us in. I don't know if we are playing like we deserve it, but with a two week break, I think this team still has the potential to make some noise in the tournament. And remember, if we get there and win one or even two, no one will remember how the regular season ended. It will go down as one of the most, if not the most, successful seasons in Panther history.

                                Let's rest up and get it done in St Louis. The Madness Starts at the Arch!
                                If computers ruled college basketball the way they do football, we'd have skipped all this March Madness monotony and just waited a month for the Kansas-Kentucky title game. And watched Northern Iowa play Cornell in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl. ~ Dwight Perry The Seattle Times
