  • Flying Saluki Dogs That Eat Children

    Beat yo a&S!

I apologize. In all honesty, over the past football and basketball season I have come to realize that UNI fans are great, very loyal, and very sportsmanlike. But the Saluki Dogs That Eat Children remains a sore spot! You guys are great fans, have a great team, and it could have easily gone the other way. It was just our night (and after 10 f(*&$%g years) maybe its our time to win the tourn! Great game!

I have to say, I am really starting to enjoy this rivalry between UNI and SIU. We both are great, strong programs in the MVC and Gateway, which always makes for a fun game. Thanks for the kind words and congrats on the win!

I must say that I too love this rivalry! I think you guys have a great athletic community up there. I wouldn't sweat the NCAA's, you have too good of resume to be left out!

What other schools in the country field 1-AA football and D1 basketball at the level of UNI and Southern Illinois?

Western Kentucky has good hoops and Montana is decent. Who else would be at or close to the level of UNI and SIU in both sports?
Winning is more fun than losing.

Historically, I'd have to give the nod to Nova. Villanova is tradition rich in Basketball.....and has had some really good I-AA football teams.

But point is well taken. The Siu vs Uni rivalry/in conf....is just amazing right now.
"We're not an ordinary school," said Fort. "We have tradition. We have a good team year after year. We rebuild, and it doesn't matter who we have coming back."

The thing I was most impressed with during the two UNI-SIU games the past two Saturdays is how classy the coaches and players are from both schools. Greg McDermott and Chris Lowery are very easy guys to root for.

The SIU/UNI rivalry is great. It's North vs. South. Traditional football school vs. traditional basketball school. Dome of Doom vs. the Arena no one can win in. Dogs vs. Cats.

Creighton/SIU used to be a big rivalry due to basketball...but the more that continues to go on b/t UNI and SIU, I think this overall rivalry is beginning to take precedent over the Creighton one. Fans show up in Cedar Falls, when the 'Dawgs' are in town...and fans show up in Carbondale, when the Panthers are in town. It's truly a great rivalry...and very fun.
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

This was my favorite thread title ever on Panthernation. Congrats to the Dogs. I think this rivalry is going to last a long time and get even better.

Every Saluki fan we spoke to in St Louis was both passionate about their team first and The Valley second. They were also very knowledgeable fans and extremely respectful and complimentary of other teams in the Valley. They were the best fans we met in St Louis. Cangratulations Salukis!!!
Now win some NCAA tournament games!

We had some SIU fans near us as we walked from the Savvis Saturday night and they said, "Your guys played a great game...don't worry about it, you'll get in too!"

That was classy. I appreciated the sentiment. Now I just want as many people to get in as humanly possible and I want them to KICK ASS. GO VALLEY!

I personally thought the Flying Saluki Dogs that eat Children was a great nick name and I now know what I must do, I need to post a Flying Saluki Dogs that eat Children post before basketball games too, we have never lost after I have posted it before a football game, maybe we will meet in the dance and I will post it then, if not, we will all just have to wait until next football season.

"White Castle?" "more like Black Castle..."

                      You stay classy Redbirds.

Can't wait to see the valley games in the big dance. Fundamental, disciplined Basketball and stifling defense. Bring it on "majors"
