  • Panthers to play 3 top 25 teams...2 at home!

ESPN says that UNI will welcome Wichita State and Creighton to the McLeod Center as top 25 worthy teams. UNI will also play at Washington, a top 25 team. For reference, the Big 10 only has 2 teams in the pre-season top 25. The Big 12 has 3. Just another reason why buying season tickets is a good idea. It used to be that Iowa or ISU were the reasons to get season tickets to get good seats (or just to support UNI). Now, you are seeing high quality basketball products from both teams on the court. Dang, this schedule is going to be tough this year.
The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice, clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him, and consumes his foes on every side; His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles; the mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness and all peoples will see His glory.

I would venture to guess that it will be more than 3 by the end of the year. But it's nice to see 3 teams on UNI's schedule get attention at Top 25 material 5 months before the first tip-off Go PANTHERS!!

If Creighton stays healthy, which has been an issue for them, their team this year could be as good or better than any of the Creighton teams from the Kyle Korver era.

Hopefully the Missouri Valley can get more television coverage/ESPN highlights this year. It's time that the level of publicity matched the quality of play in this conference.

Great point Hime...one would hope that recent success by the conference in post-season play will help expend the television exposure of this conference. BUT...there needs to be continued successs to make believers out of the skeptics. The national pundits are sure last season was a one-year blip on the radar and not the beginning of a trend. Fans of the Valley know the league has been strong and getting stronger for many years and hopefully it will continue in that direction.

Hasn't there been continued success in the Valley? Creighton and SIU have had consisistent success in and are always winning games in the tourney. If pundits haven't realized the valley is here to stay, then they aren't doing their job.

Reed, I honestly think most pundits aren't doing their job. Especially those that work for major networks. I think a lot of beat writers who work for newspapers know that the Valley is a heck of a conference but Billy Fudge Packer and Digger are a little, uh slow.

I agree...Reed...most college basketball "experts" are unwilling to admit there's great basketball outside of the BCS conferences (other than Gonzaga). Last year's tournament proved to them that it can be done by multiple non-BCS teams (getting to the Sweet 16, Elite 8 and Final 4), but they won't believe it can be done again. That's just their nature. And the people at ESPN/ABC will ALWAYS believe that the average basketball fans WANTS to see Clemson vs. Virginia on a Tuesday night in January...when it reality...I'd love to see Creighton vs. Wichita State anyday of the week instead of another ACC game. CBS has taken the first step of the major networks in getting the Valley Championship game on broadcast television...now they need to add a Valley game of the week wedged in between the SEC and Big Ten games they carry.

                  Creighton at #9
                  Southern Illinois at #21
                  Wichita State at #23
                  Missouri State at #35

Now, I love this kind of attention for the Valley from a national media outlet...but Fox Sports does hold the rights to the Valley television contract. Also, no love for the Panthers. Maybe we'll fly under the radar this year.

I was wondering when there was going to be a top 25 list with Southern in it. With all of their returning players, talent and experience and then add the kind of defense they play and that will be one tuff team. Creighton #9, that is impressive, I don't think they will be that high but I think they should be in the top 15 at least.

The Valley is going to be brutal. That's 3 top 25 teams visiting the dome this year.

I'm actually liking the idea of flying under the radar to start this year. I have a lot of faith in Coleman and Stout and I think we're going to have a heck of a year.

It's all going to depend upon the guard play. These guys need to make shots, handle the ball, and create off the dribble to take the pressure off of the bigs inside.
