These guys can score. They lost to #15 Washington 99-91. There two exhibition games they've scored over 100 points as well. So we'll need to play a little better defense tonight. They did have some guys getting in foul trouble early for them and had 23 TO's (but also forced 24).

They were 7-20 last year but return 4 starters and 12 letter winners I believe. They got a new coach from some California JC and there he had a record of 133-11 so we knows how to win. Which probably the upbeat game plan. They'll havde a little bigger team so we'll propbably get a chance to see some more post minutes, but from what I hear they like to get up and down the court (which probably works in our favor if they get a little burnt out from playing on conseutive nights).

They went basically 9 deep yesterday, but that's also with 2 starters getting into foul trouble early. They got killed on the boards last night 43-20 (including 17 offesnive rebound for Washington) so I see us getting a lot of second chance points.

That's all I really know about this team, but they will probably be a little bit better of a team that Nicholls State.

Thanks for the info. They sound a little more dangerous than I had hoped. It really makes me nervous that they will have to play Washington tomorrow after what will likely be an up and down game tonight.

That sounds almost Grinnel-esque, compared to a most D-1 gameplans.

I watched the game last night on FCS Pacific. Pepperdine is VERY dangerous. If not for the sluggish/nervous start, it would have been much closer. Washington came out hot and ran out to an early double digit lead. Pepperdine has some solid outside shooting, and they have a very impressive big man that was athletic and ran the court well. He even got down the court before everyone else for a big old-school 3 point play. This is not a game that benefits Big Jordan. It probably favors Koch, Stout, and Coleman. They don't have the size to match up with our athletic bigs, but their guards are EXTREMELY quick...they were actually running circles around Washington's guards (which is impressive). They liked to slash and kickout alot (something that UNI will have to do against them). If UNI hits the open threes (which will be there) early, I like UNI's chances. UNI should have success and throwing it in down low, and then using Stout and Coleman's great passing skills to dish it to Viet and Josten. Brooks will have to handle the constant pressure (similar to SIU, except Pepperdine took more chances). If Kwadzo was a little more seasoned, I actually wouldn't mind using Kwadzo more at the one against these guys. We don't have that luxury right now, so my guess is that you will see alot of screens set at the top of the key to get Brooks' defender off of him a little. They will full court press and 100% man to man. There will be alot of fouls called, so UNI needs to be ready to sub in and out fluidly. This will be a great test for our youth filled backcourt. But, the good news is that Eglseder should be rested and ready to play a big role against Washington.

Pepperdine will gamble a lot and give you some easy open looks. But #1 is handling the pressure from their guards like PTTB said. On a side note I think Washington might not be as good as their ranking indicates. They lost some key players from last years team. But no doubt they will still make the tournament.

It would be nice if we could take control of the game and keep our big men in. This might force them to play with their big line-up (or force us to play with our guards).

For those of us unable to be around a radio or a computer that allows 'All-Access' to work, could you please post updates in this thread? If you feel like quoting Coach Jake and Rima's pre-game show, please do so also. Thanks!

Valleytalk is predicting that we lose to Pepperdine. Someone went the extra mile and predicted a 74-67 loss.

I can think of exactly two things wrong with that.

I just happened upon this: http://pepperdinesports.cstv.com/ Looks like they will have up-to-date stats on the game. I will be in a grad class tonight with Dr. Nick Pace (former UNI BB player). I will have my laptop and hope I can sneak a few peeks. Looking forward to seeing updates...I too will update when possible.
